Evaluation question 1: How our media product develops thriller conventions
1. Evaluation question 1
In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media products
2. A thriller
• A typical thriller will have the normal adrenaline, action, suspense. A thriller
will also have a distinguished hero and villain. A thriller priorities realism, this
means that settings are carefully picked out and mysteries are not any super
natural but just really in depth investigation. There is always something to be
solved or someone to be saved in a thriller.
3. Our Thriller
• The thriller we made conformed to these thriller conventions. Our thriller
was an urban thriller. Our setting was carefully picked out as a urban setting.
It created a sense of realism that we hoped for. There is villains in this
thriller, which shows how our thriller conforms to conventions. At the end
the audience have to solve why Altin betrayed his gang . With our thriller it
can be seen as realistic. This is because situations like in our thriller happen
on a regular basis in urban London.
4. Our Location
On the left is our location
where we shot our establishing
shots and mcguffin scene. As
you can see its our urban
tower.
On the right we have a real
media product. A film called
Tower Block. It is obcious how
we used the urban thriller
feeling from this film to
influence the decision of our
location
5. Props and Costumes
On the left is our closing scene, you can
see the use of hoodies and tracksuits is a
great way to show the audience the
feeling of gang culture. We tried to evoke
fear by the use of masks as well.
On the right is a real media text. This
movie is called attack the block an urban
thriller about aliens and London
teenagers. In this picture you can see how
we used the costumes to from a real
movie to conform to urban thriller
conventions in our movie. For example
the ski mask
6. Props (continued)
In Hollywood action thrillers now
there always seems to be some kind
of high speed car chase or the
involvement of flashy cars. We
wanted to include a car in our
thriller to conform to such prop
conventions. We couldn’t do it like
the Hollywood as we only had
access to a cheap Vauxhall Corsa.
We tried replicating the shot from
Transporter (On the right)
