Preparation (2 hours)
Before the workshop:
o Remind participants to bring a fully charged laptop & current
class list
o Run through the Google Slides with the presentation notes
o Set up laptop, projector, and test speakers for video clips

How to Use the Facilitator Guide
This guide contains screen shots for each step of the workshop along with guidance for the dialogue
to be shared. The screen shots will be from two sources: the Google Slides Presentation and a Seesaw
Teacher Account. Facilitator will need to supply their own login and password for the Seesaw account.
Copies of the needed handouts are included at the end of the guide. Each participant will need one
copy of each handout.

Using Seesaw for Kindergarten Assessment
(Workshop is 92 minutes)
The focus and goal of this workshop is to improve the process of assessment in the kindergarten
classroom. After the workshop, the kindergarten teachers will be able to convert the one-on-one
standards-based report card assessments currently used to the e-portfolio method inside of the daily
classroom rotations for all subject areas to keep consistent routines that save valuable instructional time.

Welcome & Personal Introduction

The opening slide is displayed as participants enter the
classroom. Once everyone is settled, introduce yourself and
your experience with assessing kindergarten students.

total of 60 minutes in length. Outline the agenda for that time
frame.

Display slide 3 to introduce the workshop’s goal. Each
participant will be creating two ready to use assessments for
Seesaw in the classrooms.

Play the video link. This will build background for those who
are unfamiliar with use of Seesaw in the classroom. After the
video has finished, ask what benefits Seesaw provides for
students, their families, and teachers.

Creating a Teacher Account & Class List

Play the video to assist the participants in setting up their
Teacher Account and Class Lists. The video only needs to play
until 3:55. At that point, stop the video and have the
participants complete signing up for their Teacher Account and
Class lists. Assist as needed.

Handout the list of Report Card Standards. Participants select
one reading standard to create an activity for use in Seesaw.

Discuss the importance of using shortcut icons to create
directions. Without the icons, non-readers may struggle to
complete the activity.

Letter Recognition: All letters of the alphabet (capital and lowercase)

Log into the Facilitator’s Seesaw account and guide the
participants through the steps to create a reading activity to
match the reading standard they chose. Slide 9 contains the
steps that need to be completed to create and share the activity.
Use the paper copy of this checklist to check that each
participant has successfully created a reading activity and shared
it with their class.

The participants will now use the list of Report Card Standards
to select a math standard. They will create a new activity to
match this math standard and share it with the class.

Use the Facilitator’s Seesaw account and review with the
participants the steps to create an activity to match the math
standard they chose. Slide 11 contains the steps that need to be
completed to create and share the activity. Use the paper copy
of this checklist to check that each participant has successfully
created a math activity and shared it with their class.
