The document discusses several promotion methods for a fashion documentary, including an Instagram page, TikTok page, YouTube channel, class screenings, and posters around college. The Instagram and TikTok pages aimed to foreshadow the documentary and generate curiosity through short video clips and photos. Class screenings and posters provided local promotion on campus. Merchandise, film festivals, and social media groups were considered but avoided due to concerns about reach, relevance, or potential for online toxicity. The key promotion strategies focused on using social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok to engage the target 16-24 year old audience.
2. Promotion Method: Instagram Page

My first method of presentation is by making an Instagram account. Instagram is
a social media platform used by the majority if not all 16-24 year olds in which it
is an easy and accessible way of people seeing my documentary. On my main
Instagram page I have a following of 1700 friends and mutuals and so by sharing
my production account which promotes my documentary I should get a growing
amount of views which will increase the more people share it. I made the
Instagram account to foreshadow some of the showcases within the
documentary which I think is an effective method to engage the audience as
some of my friends may see the name of one of the models on the thumbnail
they are familiar with and will want to watch the documentary through curiosity
or to support the model. Foreshadowing it also gives my audience an early look
at what the documentary will look like and if the colours and settings I shot in
the video appeal to them they will want to go and watch it. I made each post
with a mention of each of my models and put an attention grabbing caption
which you can see in the example to the left. I used questions which my
audience may be wondering while looking at the post to try and pull the
audience in. I also include ‘Link in bio’ just so that my audience know where to
find the link to the documentary
3. Promotion Method: TikTok Page

My second presentation method is by making a TikTok page. I think that this is
another way which is possibly more effective than the Instagram page because I
made 3 TikTok's which are short 10-15 second trailers of each of my models; Being in
video form like my documentary might be something more appealing to my
audience. It also includes the idea of foreshadowing or giving a taster of how the
documentary will look like as I included some of the most significant shots from each
of the showcases in the documentary while illustrating who the model is, the name
of the documentary and where to find it in text in the middle of the TikTok. I think
that it is also a very effective way of promoting the documentary as TikTok is a social
media which works off of algorithm. TikTok users will have their very own ‘for you
page’ which only shows the type of content that they engage with and enjoy in which
as I have made a fashion documentary, My TikTok's will appear on my audience which
are people who are interested in fashion. Differently to Instagram where my
promotion is mainly aimed for my friends and mutuals, TikTok is open to the public
and is quick for publicity which is a way to boost my documentaries viewing
effectively and fast.
4. Promotion Method: YouTube
Another Promotion method which I have used is YouTube. YouTube is a social media video streaming platform
where creators can post videos of all types and lengths and present their creations to a public audience. A
consumer may want to watch fashion related content or a documentary which would mean them typing in on
the search bar ‘fashion’ or Documentary’. My video would appear on the list of videos which come up in which
is exposure to my video giving my audience access to watch it. I think that this method isn’t as effective as
Instagram or TikTok as they have guaranteed viewing whereas on YouTube people need to find the video to se
it.
5. Promotion Method: Class Screening
Ways which I got my feedback was by doing class screenings. I would invite students and teachers to my classroom, mainly
media students as I think that their experience in making content would lead to the giving some good constructive
feedback as to what I could improve overall in the documentary. As some of the other students who I am friends with
around college were intrigued by my documentary idea and wanted to watch it I used lunchtimes for people to come and
enjoy the documentary as it got people talking about it within college and also brought together different people from
different fashion culture backgrounds to engage together while watching the video. This was something which made me
happy and contributed to my passion in reducing youth fashion toxicity. This method however isn’t as effective as social
media methods such as Instagram because people have to be in college and available to see it whereas on Instagram they
can watch from home and is accessible from their phone.
6. Promotion Method: Promo Poster
Another method that I used to promote my video was by making a poster and
spreading it in areas around college for people to watch it. I aimed to post it in
specific areas such as 2nd floor because it has the creative corridor where people
with embracive fashion sense are usually located, The front of college where
people are entering and leaving and handed some out as students walk by. This
was an effective method as it got people talking about it around college making
people who didn’t even see the poster take time to watch it. Some students who
may recognise one of the models or wear the same fashion clothes that one of my
models do which will encourage them to watch the video. This wasn’t as effective
as the social media promotion as some students may forget about it later in the
day as they may not have time to watch it straight away on their breaks whereas
on social media people have it within a few clips and can at least view a part of it.
7. Promotion Methods I Avoided: Merchandise
I explored how some brands make merchandise as a method of promoting their projects however I felt that
although it is a fun thing which my type of 16-24 ear old audience would enjoy, a minority of my audience
would actually engage and wear the merchandise which I would make. I think that if I were to make
merchandise I would make t-shirts which have phases which have text mentioning how people don’t care
about how people perceive their fashion sense. It would be simplistic and would catch the eye of other youths
as they would see the message behind the t-shirts and have an opinion on It but its just a shame as not many
people would buy it meaning it is an ineffective way to promote my documentary compared to social media.
8. Promotion Methods I Avoided: Film Festival
A method that some film/video creators use to promote their video is submitting it to film festivals. Film
festivals are events which are ran to showcase peoples film creations like films and documentaries. An example
of one of these that I looked at was ATS student awards who open up submission to students who demonstrate
their video ideas and support and inspire young people who want to grow within motion video creation which I
think is a good way of promoting a video however, I don’t feel as though my documentary concept is
something which would apply to many of the audience that they have. The reason I think this is that my videos
style is in a social media/quick watch way which juxtaposes against the content which that community would
want to watch in meaningful films etc.
9. Promotion Methods I Avoided: Social Media
Groups
Another method which I assessed for promoting my documentary was social media groups. I looked at groups
such as reddit blogs and discord servers which are video related. I think they are a great way to bring
communities together where people could see my documentary and discuss about it and possibly make new
friends who are of the same fashion culture however the reason I didn’t end up using this method was because
these blogs and servers are open to the public which could lead to anonymous trolls who may join to share
negative opinions upon the video. My video is about bringing together youths when it came to fashion sense
however as online abuse and toxicity is very common in these online environments it would be better I don’t
showcase my video in that.
