THE ROOM
SOME DOORS ARE MEANT TO BE KEPT CLOSED
STORYLINE –
The story begins with a girl, left home alone in her room.
She feels a presence , followed by unfamiliar noises and
shadows moving throughout the room. When attempting
to escape, she goes through the door, only for it to lead
to the same room, with the same monster.
CHARACTERS -
Main character – 16 yr/old, female
- Main Protagonist
- Casual clothing
- Actor: Jessica Cotton
Antagonist
- Monster
- Dark shadow
- Dark costume design
LOCATION -
The film will be set in only
one location. We’ve decided
to choose a girls bedroom, as
it realistically reflects our
characters lifestyle.
FORM -
Narrative techniques
Camera work – Low camera angles to begin with then higher angles at climax to create sense of
power shift.
Close up shots to create tension through detail.
Colour correction – reduced brightness to create fear factor and shadows. Draws attention to the
light.
Sound – beginning starts off focused on diegetic sounds and sound effects, for example, a door
creaking. As tension builds non diegetic sounds build. At the climax a loud non diegetic sound
shocks the viewers.
STYLE -
We will be using many wide shots to
show off the small environment that the
girl is trapped in to create the sense of
claustrophobia and create tension in the
film.
We’re going to use a darker colour pallete to
emphasise the use of shadows that the monster
creates.
The colour
scheme used in
our short will be
mainly black and
we will dull down
any bright colours
to reduce the
feeling of comfort

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE -
October 21st – location recce
October 24th – risk assessment
October 27th – finish pre production
October 29th - filming day
October 31st – upload footage and start edit
