2. Analyze the role of tourism on the Urban
1.
economy for cities like Dehradun. Justify how Ribbon
development and bad maintenance of cultural heritage
can severely affect the tourist "hub'.
2. Justify the role of active 'Municipal Services' in
maintaining the migration/growth rate. Consequently,
suggest some policies to be implemented for better
sanitation facilities keeping in mind the high population
density.
3. Inspect the environmental adversities due to
unplanned growth. Subsequently, illustrate how proper
development plans can create enough employment
opportunities in the service sector keeping the low
workforce participation in mind.

3. Role of tourism in Urban Economy
Role of tourism in Urban Economy
According to the United Nations, in 2015, 54% of the
world’s population lived in urban areas and, by 2030, this
share is expected to reach 60%. Along with other key
pillars, tourism constitutes a central component in the
economy, social life and the geography of many cities in
the world and is thus a key element in urban
development policies.
Urban Tourism is "a type of tourism
activity which takes place in an urban
space with its inherent attributes
characterised by non-agricultural
based economy such as
administration, manufacturing, trade
and services and by being nodal points
of transport

6. Ribbon Development
Ribbon Development
The building of houses in a continuous row along the main road
Disadvantages of Ribbon development on tourism
Ribbon development increase traffic
Ribbon development model is only successful short term and in places with abundant flat
lands but in mountain cities like dehraddon with limited flat lands this model will fail
miserably
Ribbon development Leads to overcrowding and poor maintenanceof cities.
Future development becomes costly.
7. How government and municipality services can help?
How government and municipality services can help?
Sanction funds for building connectivity to major cities,
via air route connections, rail and better highway
connectivity to make tourism more convenient for the
floating population.
Building of banks, government offices, hence attracting
jobs and civilization.
City-wide implementation and up-scaling of initiative
for Door To Door waste collection. The initiative has
potential to support waste to energy initiative.
Conservation of cultural heritage.(Maintenance of
monuments etc.)
8. Schemes to promote greenery in urban lands.
Invest in the education and literacy rate for the
youth so we have a highly employable younger
population which could be directed towards ever
growing hospitality and tourism related sectors
and provide more opportunity to captivate
human resource.
Improving market access and outreach of major
university setups to improve employability.
Include heavy fine on littering publicly
monitored via cameras placed strategiclly in
traditionally "unhygienic" spots.
9. Real city examples
Real city examples
Cost of door to door waste collection
No of households= 2,00,000
Cost per household= 200
Total Cost= 2,00,000* 200= 4,00,00,000
Cost can be recovered from various ways like
- Recycling waste
- Direct from citizen
- Bio energy generation, etc.
Cost of making parks and planting trees:
Cost to Plant trees
Cost of planting trees- ₹50 PER TREE
COST OF MAINTAINANCE- ₹10 PER TREE PER YEAR
Miscleaneaus Cost- ₹10 PER TREE
Infrastructure cost- ₹10per tree
No. of trees to be planted- 1,00,000
Total cost for 1st 5year= (50+10+10+5*10) *1,00,000= 1,20,00,000
5 year Plan to recover This Cost-
Tickects cost- (50000*50)*5=1,25,00,000
Selling Merch/fruits/etc.= 10,00,000*5= 50,00,000
Total Recovery= 1,75,00,000
Total Profit After 5 years= 1,75,00,000- 1,20,00,000= 50,00,000
10. Urbanisation is the process through which cities grow, and higher and higher
percentages of the population come to live in the city.
Urbanization is often discussed in reference to countries that are currently in the
process of industrializing and urbanizing, but all industrialized nations have
experienced urbanization at some point in their history. Moreover, urbanization is on the
rise all over the globe.

Lot of problems are mounting up as a result
of raising the height of

11. Solutions to Urbanization
Solutions to Urbanization
Building Sustainable and
Environmentally-friendly
Cities
Population Control
The objective here is to
build sustainable cities that
embrace improved
environmental conditions
and safe habitats for all
urban populations.
Key stakeholders in urban
areas must provide campaigns
and counseling for effective
medical health clinics and
family planning to help reduce
the high rates of population
growth.
Provision of Essential
Services
Urban stakeholders must
ensure all populations within
the urban areas have access to
adequate essential social
services namely education,
health, sanitation and clean
water, technology, electricity,
and food.
To lessen the negative effects
of rapid urbanization while at
the same time conserving
natural ecosystems, private
investments should be
encouraged so as to utilize
natural resources and create
more job opportunities.
Creation of More Jobs
12. Impact of proper development on
Impact of proper development on
Employment
Employment
India has a literacy rate of around 70%, which is less than some of the least developed countries, and
when it comes to employability, only 20% of them are employable. Literacy is not just restricted to
education but even broadens to the concept of skills, which comprises technical expertise, vocational
skills, transferrable skills, digital skills, and other such knowledge and abilities required for
employment and livelihood. According to a survey, only 25% of the Indian workforce has undergone a
skill development program, and India needs a higher number of skilled workforce.
Skill development is a vital tool to empower people, to
safeguard their future and for the overall development of an
individual. It is an important aspect that enhances
employability in today’s globalisation. Skills are as essential as
one’s academic status. Education and skills should now go
hand in hand. They are the roots behind the economic growth
and community development of a country.
