entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent,
a part of the main”
-John Donne
3. A popular line that
reminds us that we are
part of this world and we
cannot live entirely
separated from it.
4. Good day to all our dear televiewers and
subscribers!
I’m Rose Anne P. Ramos, SHS Teacher II
of Camp Tinio NHS. I will be sharing with
you topics under Introduction to the
Philosophy of the Human Person
Today we will tackle about:
1. Natural Order,
2.Environmental Disorder
3.Environmental Aesthetics
5. At the end of the lesson you should be
able to:
1. Distinguish natural order from
environmental disorder.
2. Discuss the ideas of environmental
aesthetics and how it influence human
action regarding the environment.
3. Notice disorder in your environment
and organize it in an aesthetic manner.
6. But before that let us recall:
1. What is environmental
philosophy?
2. How does philosophy define the
person’s relationship with the
environment?
9. Philosophers believe
that the person has a
special relationship
with nature. Unlike
other organisms, the
person has the ability
to change the
environment to suit
his or her purpose.
10. Now that we know that man
has a unique relationship
with nature let us discuss
about the environment’s
natural order and the
opposite of it, disorder.
17. Love it! Oppa! wow, OMG!
Yes, two thumbs up! They are
definitely wonderful. Why?
That is because they are in
their natural order. What
then is natural order?
18. NATURAL ORDER
The environment as believed by
philosophers has its natural order, one
that emanates from God’s purpose during
creation. It is the built-in arrangement
that belongs to things inherently, and
according to the very nature they possess.
19. To make it simple, natural order means ,
“nature will continue with its activities
with or without our intervention”.
Examples:
The sun shines and sets on its own
The birds flying freely in the sky
Weeds growing anywhere
Rain pouring
Rivers flowing to the sea
20. It is in this orderly
manner that man
thrives best.
However, according to
Heraclitus, a Western
philosopher in the
ancient period, the
world is in constant
change.
21. Human designed this world
according to his purpose, needs,
desire and own benefits. Is there
something wrong with that?
None, but along with this
changes we can also notice that
the environment had also
transformed continuously.
42. ENVIRONMENTAL AESTHETICS
A philosophical view that believes
maintaining order in the
environment will bring out the
natural beauty of the surrounding
and contribute to the well being of
the people and other organisms.
43. ENVIRONMENTAL AESTHETICS
A new sub-field of philosophical
aesthetics.
The aesthetic appreciation of
natural environments
Seeing the beauty and value in
everyday activities (aesthetics of
everyday life)
44. Therefore we need to
understand environmental
aesthetics and how can we use it
to transform the disorder back
into order again.
45. How to organized things in an
aesthetic way?
1. Develop an
ecological self,
to treat the
environment as
a partner in the
preservation of
life.
47. 3.The human person
should consider the
common good when
appropriating our
natural resources.
How to organized things in an aesthetic way?
48. As a student how can
you organize things in
an aesthetic way?
49. You don’t have to be BIG or
RICH, you just got to have
the heart to see how
beautiful our environment
is.
Think…Reflect and Act….
50. Look around you, just within
the bounds of your own
home and try to make a
difference by appreciating
the beauty of everything.
51. The food that your parent
serves you is a proof of the
existence of our relationship
with the environment,
treasure it, eat heartily and
stop wasting it.
52. The water we drink and use, the
air we breath, the clothes we
wear ,they are nature’s gift to
man.
What do we give in return?
53. With that I will leave you
with words to ponder as you
appreciate the beauty of our
environment.
54. THOUGHTS TO PONDER
Love the world as your own
self; then you can truly care
for all things.
-Lao Tzu
