1. We have seen that women have a higher life expectancy than
men but more long-standing illness. We have also seen that a
range of social factors affect women’s health, particularly
poverty. Make a list of the ways in which you think that social
factors may affect women’s health.

2. 2. We have seen that lifestyles and behaviours affect health. We
have also seen that lifestyle choices are strongly influenced by
levels of affluence or deprivation. Make a list of lifestyle choices
which can have a negative impact on health. How might wealth or
deprivation have an impact on these.

3. 3. Old people are often negatively stereotyped and experience
discrimination. List the ways in which older people may
experience ageism. In what ways may health services be
ageist? In your experience, do health professionals hold
negative stereotypes of older people? What actions do you
think would help to overcome ageism in healthcare?

in your practice. How might these differences impact upon care
