DISC Type
The results for the DISC types for my group, group 5, is spread across the board. Where
others lack in certain categories others are plenteousness; I feel that this will be great for our
team members becauseit somewhat forces us to come together as a“pie” insteadof being “slices
of pizza”. If someone in the group needs help others will be able step in to further assist an
individual receive a better understanding of a particular assignment and/or problem.
Stacie and I have our highestpercentages in the dominant and influentialcategory, where
the rest of our group have the highest percentage in the steadiness category. As a group four out
of five members had the least percentage in the compliance category; I believe that this will be
beneficial towards our team for the simple fact that the majority of the group will be risk-takers
that are inhibited and will always try the untried.
The only thing problem I see my team and members running into is that we all seem to
be very strong-will powered. Because we are all so independent there could be a possibility that
we might run into disagreements where someone wants to be dominant and correct about a
certain situation while the others team members disagree and want to take a different route.
This is a situation where we have to come together as a teamand decide what is the overall best
decision for the group. It is important that we allcome to a census and understanding conclusion;
in doing so could and will result in a better outcome for the project we are working on. We must
put our differences to the side and get along for the sake of the team and most importantly to
be successful in this domain.
2. My DISC personality test indicated that I had a dominant personality type. I agree with
this particular assessment because I consider myself an assertive individual who likes to be in
control and/or on top of things. I have played competitive basketball nearly my entire life at the
point guard position; the majority of point guards automatically take on an important role of
being leaders of the team. In game situations a great point guard will become a general on the
court due to the fact that the coaches are not allowed to be. Since the coaches can only coach
from the side, the point guards become the coaches of the floor. As a point guard for 20 years I
have taken this general-like role as a life learnt lesson and still apply it to my everyday lifestyle.
In doing so I have a strong inner motivation to influence people and circumstances and simply
helping others. I am very controlled and calm, and yet enthusiastic and optimistic all at the exact
same time. I always have opening ears and arms to help others.
Overall a Dominant type enjoys competition and challenge, are goal oriented, self-
sufficient individuals, and most importantly wants to be challenged in order to overcome
adversity. To be the best team member that I can be I intend to come out of my comfort zone
to not be so independent when working with others, taking constructive criticism, and explain
to my group that we all need to be leaders to be successful in the assignments where we will be
working together. I will explain to my group that although I am dominant I still amwilling to
listen and relate to other ideas and suggestions for the sake of group. In order to succeed it is
important that our group really acts like a team, and there is no “I” in team, therefore, we must
all come together to win!
