2. Industry is the backbone upon which the economy of any country prevails. The growth of economy,
the internal development of a nation depends upon the development of industrial sector. In the
growing country a growing economy like ours, the finite nature of material and other resources requires
a reappraisal of contemporary methods of management and manufacture with stress laid on revising and
implementing optimal systems. There are many management sciences which steer to productivity
improvement (Hillir, Lieberman, & Taha, , 2010).
Industrial Engineering can be described as engineering that deals with the design, improvement, and
installation of integrated systems (as of people, materials, and energy) in industry or the discipline of
utilizing and coordinating humans, machines, and materials to attain a desired out putrate with the
optimumutilization of energy, knowledge, money, and time. It employs certain techniques (such as floor
layouts, personnel organization, time standards, wage rates, incentive payment plans) to control the
quantity and quality of goods and services producedur, or simply the use of machines to manufacture
products, and the study of this Engineering is applied science and technology, whereas management can be
more seen as an art, though tools exist and scientific approaches have been taken, first known as Taylorism
after Frederick Winslow Taylor . Taylor, with his four principles of scientific management, can be seen
as the godfather of industrial engineering (Markl & Lackner, 2019).
According to Nadler, Gerald & Motion Industrial engineering can be define as may be defined as the
art of utilizing scientific principles, psychological data, and physiological information for designing,
improving, and integrating industrial, management, and human operating procedures.
Rao stated that The objectives of Industrial Engineering are optimization of productivity of work-
systems and occupational comfort, health, safety and income of persons involved.
With many opinions that industrial engineering is a scientific field that not only learns how to
design and regulate human factors but also pay attention to the machine and the surrounding environment.
Industrial engineering is a derivative of mechanical engineering but this department has many links in other
fields, in addition to the field of engineering. For example in the field of psychologists, science and
management or social fields. This makes my reason to choose industrial engineering major because in
industrial engineering we can learn various fields and of course have great opportunities in the world of
work. By learning in industrial management, we can relate to all industrial processes, for example in human
3. resource management. Beside that, we will definitely learn science that is very important in manufacturing
jobs, especially at physics.
With physics I will be trained to be able to handle the planning and application process of concepts
in quantitative methods. This relates to the integral system found in almost all fields contained in almost all
fields of work, which consists of human, machine, and material.
