Modal verbs are a special group of auxiliary verbs that express attitudes rather than facts. They are used before other verbs to express permission, ability, possibility, requests, obligations, and prohibitions. Modal verbs are always followed by an infinitive without "to" and have no third person singular form. They also don't require an auxiliary verb in negatives and questions. Common modal verbs include can, could, may, might, must, should, ought to, shall, will, would. This document provides examples of different modal verbs and their meanings.
