Dusan was born in 1996 in the Czech Republic to a poor family. He felt different from others from a young age and had trouble making friends. He was homeschooled until secondary school due to frequent illnesses. Dusan struggled to fit in at his new school and was often avoided by his peers. He had an older brother Nathan and mother Rose, but was warned never to ask about his absent father. Dusan began having recurring nightmares and wondered about his identity and family history, despite being discouraged from inquiring about his father. He took solace in his studies and expanding his knowledge.
1. Dusan Backstory
Name: Dusan - Czech name derived from the Slavic element dusha meaning ‘’soul, spirit.’’
Birthday - 6th June 1996
Dusan was a normal kid, who had a normal life and a normal family. He wasn’t wealthy, in fact he
was very poor, his family worked a lot and he was alone a lot of the time. He was taught not to steal,
not to be selfish and to work hard.
But, he had felt different to the people around him, they had distinctive features and personalities
but he, well, he was just different. He started to feel this way when he first went to secondary
school, all of the eyes around him made him nervous and very paranoid, he hadn’t always been so
nervous when meeting new people but something seemed off to him like something wasn’t right.
Maybe it was the way he dressed or the way he looked but he didn’t like the people at this school,
they were too…interesting.
His mum took no notice of this and said it was just the nerves of meeting new people, but Dusan
knew something was different about him. He could sense something others could not. He learnt to
live with this and learnt to ignore it but people still wouldn’t talk to him, did they sense something
weird about him? They tended to avoid him for no apparent reason; this made him very lonely,
almost like he wasn’t wanted.
He had been home-schooled by his mother up until secondary school because he would always get
ill, whether it was a cold or the flu, he would have it. This meant that he didn’t make many friends
throughout life and he didn’t really know how to communicate with people, therefore the thought
of joining a school, with people, frightened him. He was worried that he wouldn’t make friends and
that people wouldn’t like him.
He had a big brother, Nathan, who was 4 years older than him, and a mother, Rose, who was 37. He
had lived with them his whole life and everything seemed normal. He never asked about his father
because his brother had warned him not to, ‘we don’t speak of him anymore’ his brother always
said, this was drilled into Dusan since he was young, he learnt not to ask and not to even think about
this man.
Recently, he had been thinking about this, thinking about whom his father was and why he was not
to be talked about. This came into his head every now and then, he would daydream about what his
father looked like and how he acted but he was always too scared to ask. Why was he not to ask?
What was so bad about his father that he isn’t to be spoken of? It was always in the back of his mind.
It had been 3 months since he joined secondary school and people still avoided him, they tried not
to make eye contact with him. There was one thing he had always loved, this was work. He was able
to forget about everything that was happening around him, he didn’t have to worry about being
judged by everyone. Although he was very timid and shy, he loved to learn new things, to expand his
knowledge; this is what he lived for.
Then, he started to have nightmares, at first they were every fortnight but then they became more
frequent, it wouldn’t always be the same, sometimes something new would appear and a lot of the
time he would see what looked like a person. What was this mysterious figure?
