Izyum in particular was one of the most fortified sections of the Russian front line. On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said troops had retaken more than 6,000 sq km (2,317 sq miles) from Russian control in September, in the east and the south. A month into the invasion, Russia pulled back from Kyiv and declared its main goal was the "liberation of Donbas" - broadly referring to Ukraine's eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk. More than a third of this area was already seized by Russian proxy forces in a war that began in 2014, now Russia wanted to conquer all of it. The Kremlin claimed it had "generally accomplished" the aims of the invasion's first phase, which it defined as considerably reducing Ukraine's combat potential. But it became clear from Russia's withdrawal that it had scaled back its ambitions. "Putin needs a victory," said Andrei Kortunov, head of the Russian International Affairs Council. "At least he needs something he can present to his constituency at home as a victory." Russian officials are now focused on seizing the two big eastern regions and creating a land corridor along the south coast, east from Crimea to the Russian border. They have claimed control of the southern region of Kherson and a leading Russian general has said they have hopes of seizing territory further west along the Black Sea coast towards Odesa and beyond. "Control over the south of Ukraine is another way out to Transnistria," said Maj Gen Rustam Minnekayev, referring to a breakaway area of Moldova, where Russia has some 1,500 troops.

• Ukraine has extensive social and cultural ties with
Russia, and Russian is widely spoken there, but those
ties have deteriorated since Russia invaded Ukraine
in 2014.
• Since the invasion of Crimea in 2014, Ukraine has
been living in fear of war with Russia for nearly eight
years.
• Russia and Ukraine have been at odds for a long
time, with Russia claiming Ukraine as a part of its
country and opposing Ukraine’s developing ties to
the West. Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to
recapture the former Soviet Union Republic(Ukraine).
• He requested that the Ukrainian military put down
their weapons.
• But Ukrainian refused and The War for Begins which
eventually costs everything to the people out there.

Cost of The War
• The UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights (OHCHR) recorded more than 40,241
civilian casualties in Ukraine only.( exact
figure is still unknown)
• A total of approximately 13,827-28,000
civilians killed and approximately 21,159-
40,000 civilians injured.
• Over 12,000 Ukrainian troops were
killed,30,000 injured, 7,500 missing and
5000 were captured.
• 52,560 Russian troops killed, 75,000 injured.

Infrastructure Loss.
• An estimate loss of $114 Billions to Ukraine's
infrastructure only and still counting.
• The United Nation have confirmed the full or partial
destruction of 1000+ buildings and over 162 cultural and
historic heritage site were destroyed.
• Around 5.2 million jobs have been lost in Ukraine, as the
invasion shutdown businesses and exports.
• One in two Ukrainian businesses have shut down
completely, while the other half operating below the
capacity.
• In total more than 30% of Ukraine’s workforce lost their
source of income and 3 million people lost their job in
Russia.

Rise in Freight Rates
• Both the countries are major supplies of crude
oil and gases.
• For the first time International Oil prices has
crossed the $100 per barrel mark.
• Prices of crude oil remain above the mark of
$120 per barrel during the war.
• Prices of natural gases also increased by 50%
compared to 2021.
• As the prices of fuel increased transportation
cost has also increased.
• Rise in freight rates results rise in the prices of
raw material and it eventually affects the
production and final cost as well.

Education and
Health Sector
• Over 2,000 schools and universities have been
damaged or destroyed since the invasion of
Russia.
• Both sides have used the schools as a military
base and as a warehouse for storing weapons
and artilleries.
• International students are also stuck and have
no choice left except waiting for the help so
that they can fly back to their countries. (over
1000+ Indian students were evacuated).
• According to WHO there have been 445
attacks related to health care in Ukraine.
• 80% of the hospitals are completely
demolished and destroyed and only 13% of the
health care facilities are fully functional.

11. Economic and Agricultural Instability
• After the Covid pandemic when economy is still
struggling to get on the track, this conflict made it
worse and created a ripple effect on economy.
• Inflation rate spikes to 7.7% i.e. 26 years high.
• The global GDP has dropped by 1% due to this
conflict and the global growth slipped from 4.5%
to 3%.
• Inflation is likely to double itself nearly to 9%.
• The explosive an chemicals has made the soil so
toxic that they loss their fertility.
• It will take almost 100 years to gain their fertility
back to normal.
• Similarly during 1st World War some part of
German land losses their fertility and it will take
700 years to regain its fertility.

12. Psychological Impact
• Living between the war, wherever you see you’ll find
a guy with a loaded gun, tanks and bombs around the
streets, helicopters above you, every second feels like
last second of your life, you don’t know where that
tank is aiming to it could be you or your family.
• You are alive, starving, don’t have a place live, you
could be into pieces within fraction of second you
never know.
• Sirens, bombarding all around all day, women are
been raped by 50 of men
• The war is over but its scares are deep, it ruined the
consciousness of the people living there, people are
in depression, trauma and it has a deep impact on
children and pregnant women and it will remain for a
long time.
• This is something that we can’t imagine, the mental
health of the person who is actually facing this, we
can’t empathies or sympathies either this is beyond
that, war doesn’t ruined their country only but their
mentality also.
