WORK EXPERIENCE
Currently working at Center for Sustainable Technologies, Indian Institute Science as “Project
Associate” after completion of Post graduation (from July 2013) to till date.
 Numerical simulation of SI engine using complete reaction mechanism for Non regular
fuels - (September2015 – present)
The project consists of full cycle 3-D simulation of SI engine fuelled with non regular fuels
using Converge-CEI software for complete reaction mechanism (GRI-3 and GRI-2.1) for
various piston cylinder geometries and exhaust gas analysis. Post processing part is carried
out using Ensight.
Contribution - Creation of geometry using Catia, carrying out cold and combustion
simulation using Converge-CEI, consolidation and analysis of results using Ensight.
 Adaptation of Natural gas engine to Producer gas operation for power generation
application - (April 2014 – December 2015 )
The project consists of adaptation of multi-cylinder automotive natural gas engine to natural
gas stationary power generation application and then converted to producer gas (bio derived
gaseous alternative fuel) operation for stationary application, and to carrying out
performance analysis for both fuels at steady and transient operation for peak load and part
load operations.
Contribution - Design of experiments and its setups. Making necessary fuel line
modification for the producer gas operation. Carrying out the experiments for both fuels and
carrying out in-cylinder investigation and energy balance.
 Experimental and CFD Simulation of Y and Box type carburetor designed for
Producer gas engine - ( February 2015 - April 2015)
The project consist of experimental and CFD simulation of 10, 25 and 100kWe capacity
carburetor for Producer gas fuelled SI engine. Experiments were carried to check whether
both carburetor meet the requirements i.e. capability to operate at required air to fuel ratio.
CFD simulations were carried out to analyze the flow pattern from air fuel stream and
mixing of both stream.
Contribution - Design and preparation of experimental setup, and carrying out the
experiments optimally. Carrying out pre-processing activities such as geometry creation,
meshing and problem formulation for simulations carrying out the simulations and Post
processing and analyzing the results.
 Multi-dimensional CFD Modeling of IC engine - (February 2014 –January 2015)
The Project consists of modeling and simulation of complete cycle for cold flow and
combustion cycle for 2D and 3D model analysis of gas exchange and combustion processes
of producer gas fuelled engine using ANSYS-Fluent code.
Contribution - Pre-processing activities like modeling in Catia, Meshing using ICEM for
2D and Mechanical meshing for 3D and problem formulation. Carrying out cold and
combustion simulation in Ansys-Fluent, consolidation and analysis of results using CFD-
Post.
 Experimental and CFD simulation of industrial burner - (November 2013 – April 2014)
The project consisted carrying out experiments for regular industrial burner and making
necessary modification for existing burner to adopted it for producer gas operation.
Modeling and simulation of the same burner configurations for both the fuels were carried
out using commercial CFD code, to analysis combustion and temperature profile
distribution inside the burner, the mixing between the fuel the air for different flow rates.
Contribution - Design and preparation of experimental setup, and carrying out the
experiments optimally. Carrying out pre-processing activities like modeling , Meshing using
Catia and mechanical meshing, carrying out cold to observe the mixing pattern and
combustion simulation to analysis temperature and species distribution using Ansys-Fluent
and CFX, consolidation and analysis of results using CFD-Post.
 Oxy-Steam gasification for the generation of Hydrogen enriched syngas - (August 2013
- December 2013)
The project consist on generation of Hydrogen enriched syngas from fixed bed downdraft
oxy-steam gasification and scrubbing out the inert gas like CO2. Pressuring the gas up to 80
bar and filling it into the cylinder.
Contribution - Design and preparation of experimental setup, carrying out the experimental
and capturing the data using DAQ system, Consolidation and analysis of the results.
 Numerical simulation of Building Integrated Photovoltaics - (September 2013 – October
2013)
The project consisted of modeling and simulation of 3D room of 5mx4mx4.5m consisting of
flat roofs of photovoltaics on the top, this was carried out using commercial CFD package to
observe the temperature distribution inside the room for total period of 72 hours.
Contribution - Creation of geometry using Catia , Meshing using ICEM-CFD , carrying out
simulation using ANSYS-Fluent for varying wall boundary conditions to observe the
temperature profile distribution inside the room, consolidation and analysis of results using
CFD-Post.
 Cold flow CFD simulation of packed bed - (August 2013 – September 2013)
The project consisted of modeling and simulation of cold flow for 3D packed bed analysis at
different ratio of flow rates through the primary and secondary air inlets by using
commercial CFD code
Contribution - Creation of geometry using Catia , Meshing using ICEM-CFD , carrying out
cold flow simulation using ANSYS-Fluent and CFX to observe the flow distribution inside
the packed bed, consolidation and analysis of results using CFD-Post.

(Carried out at Combustion Gasification and Propulsion laboratory, IISc, Bangalore)

 Operational experience of 20 and 80 kg/hr biomass gasifiers.
 Operational experience of 10 kg/hr biomass fixed bed Oxy-Steam gasifier.
 Operational experience of 15 kWe industrial burner.
 Operational experience of 10 kg/hr Co-gasification (Coal- wood).
 Instruments
 AVL make spark plug adapted un-cooled piezo-electric pressure sensor for acquisition of
in-cylinder pressure traces.
 Gas chromatograph and Sick maihak gas analyzer for analysis of the gas composition.
 Flue gas analyzer to measure the exhaust gas composition of engine.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
 Successfully completed three industrial research projects, which had both Experimental
and CFD aspects.
 Trained graduates in 10 - months project on Experimental and CFD aspects.
 Published conference (three) papers.
FIELD EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING CONDUCTED
 Field evaluation and trouble shoot in engine operation on producer gas for power
generation application at TATA power colony Trombay.
 Pre assessment of engine layout before dispatching from Vijay powers limited, Bangalore
to field.
 Field evaluation of producer gas engine and gasifier at TATA power plant Lonavala.
 Trained team of four members (From TATA Motors) for theoretical and operational
experience of design and operation of producer gas carburetor. Also trained for operation
of producer gas fuelled SI engine.

MACHINES /INSTRUMENT HANDLED  Machines  Operational experience on 10 kWe SI engine fuelled engine on CNG and Producer gas for stationary application (Electricity generation), 70 kWe SI engine fuelled on Producer gas for stationary application.  Operational experience of 20 and 80 kg/hr biomass gasifiers.  Operational experience of 10 kg/hr biomass fixed bed Oxy-Steam gasifier.  Operational experience of 15 kWe industrial burner.  Operational experience of 10 kg/hr Co-gasification (Coal- wood).  Instruments  AVL make spark plug adapted un-cooled piezo-electric pressure sensor for acquisition of in-cylinder pressure traces.  Gas chromatograph and Sick maihak gas analyzer for analysis of the gas composition.  Flue gas analyzer to measure the exhaust gas composition of engine. ACCOMPLISHMENTS  Successfully completed three industrial research projects, which had both Experimental and CFD aspects.  Trained graduates in 10 - months project on Experimental and CFD aspects.  Published conference (three) papers. FIELD EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING CONDUCTED  Field evaluation and trouble shoot in engine operation on producer gas for power generation application at TATA power colony Trombay.  Pre assessment of engine layout before dispatching from Vijay powers limited, Bangalore to field.  Field evaluation of producer gas engine and gasifier at TATA power plant Lonavala.  Trained team of four members (From TATA Motors) for theoretical and operational experience of design and operation of producer gas carburetor. Also trained for operation of producer gas fuelled SI engine.
