VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Eve-teasing
• Eve- teasing is one common
form of harassment that is faced
by a women whether she is young
or old, whether she is married or
not, whether she is tall or short.
VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
What is eve-teasing?
The making of unwanted sexual remarks or advances by a
man to a woman in a public place. Eve-teasing, according
to philosopher, Indu Prakash Singh, has been defined, as
“when a man bywords either spoken or by signs and/ or by
visible representation or by gesture does any act in public
place or signs, recites or utters any indecent words or
songs or bailed in any public place to the annoyance of any
women”.
VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Where it occurs?
Eve-teasing occurs mostly around
colleges, hostels, schools, in bus-
stands, cinema halls, work places
and when women travel in buses
and trains. There are some acts
implemented by the central
government which we will
discuss in later chapter.

In recent years women in films are portrayed
as showpiece or an icon of glamor. At the

films women are remarked as the glamor girl
images. They were used as accessories and
glamourous props.

Women in advertisements:
Most of the advertisements are focusing women as a sex objects
whether they sell mobile phones or soft drinks. The worst
offenders are advertisements of deodorants and perfumes
which show women running after a man only because he has
used some brand of perfume. Most advertisement try to show
that a women’s body is a fantasy object. The advertisements
treat women as a commodity rather than a human being.
