2. Mythmaking by the media
• As the lines between advertising, news, and entertainment blur,
the ideal of an informed citizenry becomes harder and harder to
achieve. We, the common people, aren’t sure what to believe, or
where to put our money and trust. We know we’re being
manipulated, misled, and outright lied to by those who seek our
support.
• Journalists and the news media offer entertainment and
sensationalism instead of significant information.
3. • From missing children to the aftermath of the September 11
attacks, from efforts to end slavery in other countries to AIDS
education, myths and deception in the media threaten us all.
While the public is being misled, real problems go unaddressed
and resources are wasted on misguided ideas.

4. Pornography and Obscenity
• Pornography or “porn,” is a socially defined class of sexual
communication, which may or may not be protected under
national laws. The term may be distinguishable from legal
definitions of obscenity or indecency.
• Pornography is generally considered the depiction of graphic
sexual behaviour usually designed to promote sexual arousal.
Pornographic material may be either legal erotica or illegal
obscenity.
5. • The underlining concept to be debated here is that
society is negatively influenced, specifically, by these
images of pornography and the result is increased
violence against women.
6. Violence and brutality
• Violence in the media had influence on children and
adolescents.
• Mass‐media violence does indeed contribute to violence in
people regardless of age, gender, race, or ethnicity.
7. • Media portrays violence as normal or acceptable, and
the problem is compounded when the aggressor goes
unpunished. Such portrayals lead to desensitization
and a greater likelihood of aggressive behaviour.
