What is the Internet?? • The Internet is a meta-network of interconnected networks that share a common language,TCP-IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol).
Foundation • This Provides learning experiences to each student • Take communication • Lets you master the course • Students learn at their own pace • Encourages active learning
DistanceVS Distributed • Distributed: illustrates how the learner-centered educational model is being implemented in today’s schools and colleges. • Is similar to a hybrid class where teachers and learners meet part time. • Do not need space from instructor to reap benefits.
Evolution • Backbone • Regional networking • Service providers • Home networks • The internet and the world wide web are NOT interchangeable
Student vs Distance learning • Lecturing – teaching • Attendance – logged in • Hours – grading • Competing – discussions • Hard books – Online sources
Advantages • Course work available 24 hours • Working at your own pace • User friendly • Google • Always up to date
