15 to 17 who are coming to the home right out of juvenile hall. All of them have complex trauma
in their past and struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD and/ or addiction.. I attempt to be a
mentor, appropriate example, and talkwith them about their behavior both positive and unhelpful
and where their what their lives to progress to. I have only been there three month, but I have
been re-reminded that this is the workI want to do ultimately. It is challenging, sad, uplifting and
inspiring.

Psychology Trainee
• I worked with individuals and couples at an outpatient medical clinic, both in short-term one time interventions,
and longer therapeutic interventions some of which lasted over a year. The interventions ranged from crisis
intervention and de-escalation to a more family therapy approach blended with self psychology techniques,
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) interventions, DBT didactic teachings, relational approaches and
motivational interviewing (MI) when indicated.
3/11 - 3/12 Alameda County Acute Rehab and SNF: San Leandro, CA
Psychology Trainee
• At an acute hospital clinic I worked as a counselor with clients (and family) challenged with brain injuries,
gunshot wounds, heart attacks, strokes and the symptoms that can come subsequent to these, such as: aphasia,
anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, memory loss, confusion and agitation. I did short term
weekly therapy, sat with people who were completely bed bound, and at times near death.
9/10 - 3/11 Alameda County Medical Center- John George Psych Pavilion: San Leandro
Psychology Trainee
• I worked on the inpatient units at John George Psychiatric Pavilion (JGPP) doing individual and group therapy.
The individual therapy was conducted on the unit with acutely psychiatrically disturbed individuals and ran the
gamut from insight-oriented therapy to providing empathic and supportive listening and reflection.
• I also ran several groups including a diagnosis group for those experiencing thought disorders and a Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy (CBT) group emphasizing and engaging patients around the practice of changing thoughts in
order to change emotional states. I intermittently ran an art therapy group, an anger management group and a
mindfulness meditation group. In addition, I offered support and explanation to those patients who wanted to fill
out discharge evaluations when they were discharged. During the last six months I conducted individual and
couples therapy at the outpatient HIV clinic at Fairmont Hospital.
9/08- 7/1/09 Integrated Health Psychology Training Program: Fremont, CA

• My caseload consisted of 6-8 patients whom I provide ongoing psychotherapy to in a medical setting. Patients
had a range of challenges including: Depression, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Schizophrenia, and issues related to
poverty, discrimination, family conflicts and extreme loss and trauma. Patients’ sec ondary medical issues were
chronic; primarily pain disorders, diabetes, hypertension and other conditions. I also ran a time -limited group.

well as detailed progress notes. I attended two weekly group supervisions, a weekly

whose patients I saw individually.
• Interventions and conceptualizations are based on individual presentation of problems, but include: relaxation

orientations I worked from began with motivational interviewing and stages of change models and extended
outward as the needs of the client became further delineated.
