CONFERENCE OVERVIEW
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the conference committee, it is a great pleasure to invite
you to take part in the Wind Power North Africa Conference at the
Novotel Cairo Airport, Cairo, Egypt. There is a pressing need for
renewable energy growth to meet political targets for 2020 and beyond.
However, the growth of renewables in the energy sector, particularly
wind energy, presents substantial challenges in terms of balancing
energy supply with energy demand.
Energy has become an indispensable prerequisite for enhancing
economic activity and improving human quality of life. Agricultural
and industrial production processes are made more efficient through
the use of electricity. To meet its growing demand, Africa has an urgent
need to raise the level of investment in its power sector. Numerous
country and regional studies suggest that the continent will need to
add approximately 250GW of capacity between now and 2030 to
meet demand growth.
North Africa boasts exceptional wind conditions, with Egypt targeting
7.2GW of wind energy by 2020 and Morocco driving forward plans to
have 2GW of wind capacity by 2016 and 2.7GW by 2030. Tunisia is also
planning to double its installed wind capacity with a target of 505MW
by 2016 and 2.7GW by 2030.
This conference will deliver new ideas, convictions, strategies and tactics
that will directly affect how you do business. No other event in Egypt will
offer a more impressive roster of keynote speakers, quality attendees
and compelling content. The conference will provide a forum for the
exchange of ideas and authoritative views by international developers
as well as government bodies and investors in this exciting field.
Outstanding keynote speakers representing government authorities
and industry renowned developers from around the globe will share
their knowledge.
The Wind Power North Africa Conference is a key opportunity for
the wind industry to meet and formulate the next steps for the region’s
wind power market. The event will combine a high-quality conference
with a first-class exhibition and feature networking opportunities with
key stakeholders from regional government authorities, investors,
international developers and the world’s leading wind power companies.
Finally, I would like to thank all the committee members and speakers
for their support and participation. This conference would not have
been possible without the tremendous support we have received.
So, together with the organisers, I look forward to welcoming you to
the Wind Power North Africa Conference from 18 – 21 October 2015.
Let us move wind energy forward together and strengthen renewable
energy on a regional level!
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Mohamed Salah Elsobki
Executive Chairman
New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA)
Egypt Ministry of Electricity and Energy
THE MARKET SITUATION
IN NORTH AFRICA
	EGYPT:
Egypt leads North Africa when it
comes to installed renewable energy
capacity, with 2.8GW of hydro and
nearly 550MW of wind. The Ministry of Electricity
and Energy is seeking 20% of energy generation via
renewable sources by 2020. 12% of that would be
from new wind farms, encompassing 7.2GW, a third
of which will be developed by the New & Renewable
Energy Authority and two-thirds from the private
sector.
	MOROCCO:
Morocco, which imports nearly all of
its electricity, had slightly more than
2GW of renewable energy installed
capacity at the end of 2012, most of it in hydro
(1.77GW), with the rest in wind (254MW) and solar
(20MW). It has an aggressive renewable energy goal
to achieve 42% of installed capacity by 2020.
	LIBYA:
Libya wants to make renewable
energy contribute 3% of its total
energy mix by 2015 and 10% by 2020.
At the moment, oil is used to produce more than half
the nation's energy with natural gas close behind.
	TUNISIA:
Tunisia wants to make renewable
energy generate up to 30% of
its electricity by 2030. As of
2013, Tunisia had about 66MW of hydro plants
(commissioned since 1956) and 173MW of wind,
spanning two plants commissioned and built by
Gamesa; the smaller one (53MW Sida Daoud) was
commissioned in phases beginning in 2000.
	ALGERIA:
In 2011, Algeria pledged to install
22GW of renewable energy by 2030,
roughly 40% of supply, with 12GW
for its own use and 10GW for export. Small-scale
deployments would begin by 2015, scaling up by
2020, including dozens of solar PV and CSP plants
(Algeria has world-class insolation) and wind farms.

  • 2. CONFERENCE OVERVIEW Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the conference committee, it is a great pleasure to invite you to take part in the Wind Power North Africa Conference at the Novotel Cairo Airport, Cairo, Egypt. There is a pressing need for renewable energy growth to meet political targets for 2020 and beyond. However, the growth of renewables in the energy sector, particularly wind energy, presents substantial challenges in terms of balancing energy supply with energy demand. Energy has become an indispensable prerequisite for enhancing economic activity and improving human quality of life. Agricultural and industrial production processes are made more efficient through the use of electricity. To meet its growing demand, Africa has an urgent need to raise the level of investment in its power sector. Numerous country and regional studies suggest that the continent will need to add approximately 250GW of capacity between now and 2030 to meet demand growth. North Africa boasts exceptional wind conditions, with Egypt targeting 7.2GW of wind energy by 2020 and Morocco driving forward plans to have 2GW of wind capacity by 2016 and 2.7GW by 2030. Tunisia is also planning to double its installed wind capacity with a target of 505MW by 2016 and 2.7GW by 2030. This conference will deliver new ideas, convictions, strategies and tactics that will directly affect how you do business. No other event in Egypt will offer a more impressive roster of keynote speakers, quality attendees and compelling content. The conference will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and authoritative views by international developers as well as government bodies and investors in this exciting field. Outstanding keynote speakers representing government authorities and industry renowned developers from around the globe will share their knowledge. The Wind Power North Africa Conference is a key opportunity for the wind industry to meet and formulate the next steps for the region’s wind power market. The event will combine a high-quality conference with a first-class exhibition and feature networking opportunities with key stakeholders from regional government authorities, investors, international developers and the world’s leading wind power companies. Finally, I would like to thank all the committee members and speakers for their support and participation. This conference would not have been possible without the tremendous support we have received. So, together with the organisers, I look forward to welcoming you to the Wind Power North Africa Conference from 18 – 21 October 2015. Let us move wind energy forward together and strengthen renewable energy on a regional level! Yours sincerely, Dr. Mohamed Salah Elsobki Executive Chairman New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) Egypt Ministry of Electricity and Energy THE MARKET SITUATION IN NORTH AFRICA  EGYPT: Egypt leads North Africa when it comes to installed renewable energy capacity, with 2.8GW of hydro and nearly 550MW of wind. The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is seeking 20% of energy generation via renewable sources by 2020. 12% of that would be from new wind farms, encompassing 7.2GW, a third of which will be developed by the New & Renewable Energy Authority and two-thirds from the private sector.  MOROCCO: Morocco, which imports nearly all of its electricity, had slightly more than 2GW of renewable energy installed capacity at the end of 2012, most of it in hydro (1.77GW), with the rest in wind (254MW) and solar (20MW). It has an aggressive renewable energy goal to achieve 42% of installed capacity by 2020.  LIBYA: Libya wants to make renewable energy contribute 3% of its total energy mix by 2015 and 10% by 2020. At the moment, oil is used to produce more than half the nation's energy with natural gas close behind.  TUNISIA: Tunisia wants to make renewable energy generate up to 30% of its electricity by 2030. As of 2013, Tunisia had about 66MW of hydro plants (commissioned since 1956) and 173MW of wind, spanning two plants commissioned and built by Gamesa; the smaller one (53MW Sida Daoud) was commissioned in phases beginning in 2000.  ALGERIA: In 2011, Algeria pledged to install 22GW of renewable energy by 2030, roughly 40% of supply, with 12GW for its own use and 10GW for export. Small-scale deployments would begin by 2015, scaling up by 2020, including dozens of solar PV and CSP plants (Algeria has world-class insolation) and wind farms. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? The Wind Power North Africa Conference will bring together CEOs, Vice Presidents, Directors and Managers from:  Government and regulatory bodies  Municipalities  Energy and utility companies  Wind farm owners and operators  Wind project developers  Private and institutional investors  Wind measuring and assessment organisations  Law firms  Wind power integrators and installers  Wind technology developers and manufacturers  Transmission system operators and planners  Consultants FEATURING SPEAKER PARTICIPATION FROM: FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO REGISTER Tel: +971 4 364 2975 | Email: enquiry@iqpc.ae | @iqpcmena | www.windpowernorthafrica.com
