The document summarizes the preparations of two Spanish teachers, Alicia and Teresa, for a one-week job shadowing experience in September 2015 at Saint James Primary School in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It describes how their bilingual coordinator and headteacher informed them about the opportunity. It then outlines the work they did in advance, including writing introduction letters to the school director, creating an agenda of activities for each day, and exchanging emails with their coordinator and the director to coordinate logistics. The teachers aimed to observe classes and teaching methods for young primary students and participate in activities to support their professional development.

3. Y TODO COMENZÓ…
HOW DID IT BEGIN?
We were informed by my headteacher Macarena and my
bilingual coordinator Jose Juan of this one week learning
focused project in June. As we saw it as a good opportunity to
learn about teaching methodologies…we said `YES, I want to
take part in it´.
llamada ‘Job-shadowing’.
Intercambiar opiniones y materiales educativos,
comentar experiencias, mostrar los enfoques
metodológicos empleados…como forma de
enriquecimiento.
colegio Saint James. Yo envié mi carta a José Juan quien a su
vez la reenvió a la persona indicada.
Dear Mr Mc Keague:
I’m writing in connection with the KA 1 programme of Erasmus +that
offers teachers the opportinuty of doing a ‘Job- shadowing’ with a learning
purpose. My Headmaster and Vice-headmaster have suggested me to take
part of this one week project in your school.
My name is Teresa and I am a Bilingual teacher in Manuel de Falla
Primary School of Jerez de la Frontera (Spain). I have been working in this
school since 2011.During that time I have been a class teacher of 10-12 years
kids during the first two years and now I am a Science and English teacher of 6-
8 children. I passed the government tests in 2005 becoming a civil servant in
my country. Since that date most of the time I have been an English (L2)
teacher.
8. As languages are communicative tools, I am always interested in
improving my English and acquiring teaching strategies (attending
courses) to make lessons more enjoyable, effective and useful for our
students.
I have been informed by my Bilingual coordinator Jose Juan that I
will visit your school in September. I will go with another bilingual teacher
of our school. Her name is Alicia.
I am really happy to have the chance of being involved in a ‘Job-
shadowing’ experience. Jose Juan gave us some information about the
tasks we are supposed to do before, during and after our visit. For that
reason I would like to be in touch with the colleague that I will work with in
order to set the topic I can prepare the plan of my seven days visit.
Thank you so much for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely
Teresa

Dear Jose Juan
Many thanks for your email. As you know, we are now on holidays. When the teachers return at the end
of August, I will ask them to get in touch with Alicia and Teresa. Would the teachers prefer to stay in one
class for the duration of their stay or would they like to visit different classes or perhaps a combination of
both (staying in the same class every morning and different classes in the afternoon)? Do they have a
preference for what age group they would like to be with? Also, if you would like, we could visit
Whitehouse PS or another school?
If you would like us to organise a hotel for you, please let me know as soon as possible. We could also
arrange to go out for dinner some of the nights you are here - I mentioned to Martin Gault you were
coming and he would like to meet up. Unfortunately, I don't think Kevin will be here when you are visiting
as he is going to Australia to visit his son.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. I will be away from 11-18 July so may not be able to reply to my
emails but I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Give my love to your family.
Paula

All the best
