Short Story
My Dad Perspective
It all start to happen when Pablo started to have fever and when he feels like all
his body was hurting. He was like that almost a whole week. During the week we left
our kids on the house and we went to a friend’s party a few blocks away from our
house. Few hours later our son Alexis said that Pablo was feeling bad again. My wife
went to the house and I stalled here. Few minutes later Alexis came back and said that
we should get his brother Pablo to the hospital, so I followed him back home. When we
got home we hurry got to the hospital and left Alexis and my wife in the house.
Later my wife came to the hospital and heard that the doctors said that Pablo has
cancer on the blood or leukemia. We stayed all day, but at night my wife goes back to
the house because Alexis was alone. The next day the doctors said that they will have
to take Pablo to another state in Mexico to treat the disease. My wife and me tell Alexis
about the disease of his brother and that he will have to live with his aunt for a while
because Pablo was going to be treated in another state. I had to stop going to work, but
luckily my boss said that he would replace me until I go back to the job. However for
the disease of Pablo sometimes they would release him for about 2 weeks so we would
go back to our house and I go to work for those few days.
One Pablo start bleeding from the nose and it wouldn't stop, so the nurses and
doctor had to put something. After some day my wife notices a black dot on Pablo
nose. We tell the doctor about it and say that he didn't have it before. They didn't listen
to us and the dot got bigger. After that they tell us that it was an infection because they
didn't take out the things they put on the nose to stop the bleeding when they were
supposed to. After that a lot of familiar from U.S. tell us to move to the U.S. because
the hospitals were better. We didn't know what to do so we decide to stay more time in
Mexico.
After 6 months was the first time they let Pablo see his brother Alexis. For some
reason they only allow 1 visitor at a time, but they didn't let his brother in before. It was
one of the first times Pablo talked a lot again since he got on the hospital. After about 3
months later they release Pablo from the hospital for 2 weeks. We were through with
that hospital and we were going to renew our passports to go to the U.S. One day
Pablo and me take out Alexis from school so we can renew the passport of Alexis and
Pablo. When we got home we hurry and got things clothes and things ready so we can
take them with us. Alexis was very surprise because the next day we were all ready
going to U.S. My brother took us in his car to the airport, so we didn't have to live our
car on the airport. We were going to go through 2 airplanes to get to Denver Colorado.
We decide to come to Denver because we have familiar in here. At the
beginning was hard because on the board they ask us questions and because I was a
resident they asked it in English and I barely understand. After that, we when to the
planes and start going to Texas. We past though Texas before going to Denver. On
Texas was very hard for us because Pablo got tired of walking and needed a
wheelchair. We almost didn't make it to the second plane because we spend a lot of
time asking for the wheelchair and they got it to us late. After that we had a finally
relaxed because we were finally going to Denver.
