Kiehl's opened their second store in Calgary on June 11th and held a grand opening event on June 20th to promote it. They held a soft opening on June 11th for VIPs. On June 19th, they had a blogger breakfast with influencer Ania B and her 70,000+ followers. The grand opening on June 20th had lineups, prize drawings, treats, and massages. It was deemed a success with traffic up 20% and social media posts gaining over 3,000 engagements. Store sales were already 35% over target and projected to be 135% over by the end of the opening month.
Kiehl's Grand Opening Drives Record Results at Market Mall
1. On June 11th, 2015, Kiehl’s opened the doors to their second freestanding store in
Calgary. They wanted to ensure that everyone in the community got a chance to
experience their great products in a big way. Kiehl’s worked closely with the
Marketing team at Market Mall to come up with a grand opening plan that would
create record-breaking results. These are the events the grand opening entailed.
SOFT OPENING
Kiehl’s soft opening was on
June 11th. They opened the

large group from the Market
Mall office team as well as a
group from the Western
Portfolio Office to get a VIP
experience from their well
trained employees. We have
to admit that ever since then,
a lot of us are hooked and
have already splurged on too
many of their products.

2. BLOGGER BREAKFAST
On the day before Kiehl’s grand opening they
hosted a blogger and influencer breakfast. Kiehl’s
partnered with blogger Ania B to host this
breakfast. Ania B is one of the biggest influencers
in Calgary. With over 70 thousand followers on
her social channels, she shares some of her
favorite experiences and products from around the
city. She invited some of the city’s biggest
influencers to receive some extraordinary
treatment from Kiehl’s incredible staff. They got
pampered, learned about prime, natural skincare,
and got to nibble on some macaroons and
croissants, what more could you ask for, really?
The bloggers made sure to document their entire
experience and shared it with their trendy

GRAND OPENING
On June 20th Kiehl’s had their extravagant Grand
Opening. Ania hosted the event and invited all her
followers to join her in her newfound skincare
obsession. With lines that took over the entire
hallway, we consider this event to be a success.
There were mystery gift cards for the first fifty
people in line, including values of $1000 and $500,
how lucky are those people? The event also
included a prize wheel where every single person in
line walked away with something in hand. There
were treats, music, and hand massages, all giving it
a very glamorous feel. The team at Market Mall
supported Kiehl’s by wrapping the touchscreen
directories in the mall with Kiehl’s graphics,
including Kiehl’s graphics in the directories,
e-flyers, as well as a strong social media presence,
including some giveaways with our infamous
contest #FridayFavourites.
RESULTS
Market Mall’s traffic experienced a 20% increase
on Saturday June 20th compared to Saturday June
6th. Market Mall’s Social Media posts regarding
Kiehl’s Grand Opening received 3,229 total post
engagements (1,872 organic engagements and 1,427
paid engagements), as well as a 0.30% growth in
audience, all from Kiehl’s target market. The store’s
sales are currently 35% over what their target was,
and they estimate it to be 135% over by the end of
the opening month!
