Introduction
Trade union is a kind of organization that is more likely to work for the promotion as well
as protection of common concerns of leaders of unions along with other workers of
unions. In this regard, it would not be wrong to say that trade union play a major role,
especially when it comes about to settle conflict of interest and other issues of workers
involving wage issues, working hours, nature and level of work employed to workers with
special issues etc.
In this regard, in Kuwait there are many trade unions working at local levels in Kuwait
city, but Kuwait Trade Union Federation is one of the trade union organizations of Kuwait
who is working as non-governmental organization with the sole purpose to settle disputes
between government and unions through the process of a secure and effective means of
communication. In reality, KTUF plays a central role between government and workers
and leaders of union so that a ground position can be developed between them as a way to
resolve disputes between them (Calderwood, 2011). Therefore, this paper will talk about
one of the NGOs of Kuwait that is Kuwait Trade Union Federation, whereas revealing
about the history or background, functions, as well as major projects in which KTUF is
functioning effective, without the support of government.

History or Background of KTUF:
Kuwait Trade Union Federation was discovered in 1968 as one of the major national trade
union hub in Kuwait. The KTUF is non-governmental organization working separately
without the support of the government and acts like a middle party, particularly when it
comes about to resolve tensions and conflict of interest between government and leaders
as well as workers of unions, in an effective manner through the use of a secure means of
communication, whereas taking considerations about the concerns of both sides.
Major Projects of KTUF:
Since the establishment, Kuwait Trade Union Federation is performing over different
functions, as a way to secure its position as well as to act as a third party between conflicts
of government and stakeholders of union. In this regard, different functions of KTUF are
as follow;
Project for the well-being and collaboration between union members:
In this modern world of affairs, with the intention to overcome the demands as well as
complexities that come in the way of employment, especially union-based employment,
some kind of specialization required. KTUF, in this regard, protects various demands and
rights of employees of a union such as matters of division so that formal connections as
well as a sense of being developed as individual can be promoted.
Project for fostering facilities for union workers:
Second function of KTUF is to serve in a way to foster various facilities for different
workers of unions, because of the fact that most of the companies are more likely to use
strict rules over their employment nature, whereas offering limited facilities and improper
working situations and settings towards the employees, especially those who are part of
unions.
In reality, most of the companies in Kuwait are more likely to higher immigrant workers
with the sole intention to use their efficiency and work-need aspects of their lives to gain
accomplishments over different projects, at maximum level. Therefore, KTUF defend such
employees in the favor of union or non-union employees whereas demanding suitable
working conditions along with other supporting facilities to be provided by the higher
authorities of companies to workers.
Project for developing relationships between employers and workers:
Kuwait is one of the Arab nations and, for this reason, many foreign workers move
towards Kuwait to find new job opportunities and to improve their financial conditions of
personal and familial lives as well. Over this fact, it would not be wrong to say that in
various companies of Kuwait it becomes hard for foreign employees to establish secure
and trustful relationships with their employers, even most of the time it become difficult
for immigrant employees to encounter with higher authorities.

In such conditions, it also becomes hard for employees to even express their causes of
distress or unfairness encountered at their workplace before the higher authorities. Over
such situations of employees of companies, KTUF is more likely to speak in favor of such
employees, whereas encouraging higher authorities to set meetings with their employees
as a way to know about personal and professional distresses of their employees, leading
towards secure and trustful relationship between employers and workers (Federation,
2018).
Project for Economic Wellbeing of Employees
As mentioned above, in Kuwait, most of the employees are immigrant and they have come
to Kuwait as a way to establish their economic well-being of life and, for this reason, they
always desire to have secure and handsome economic means of survivals over their jobs.
However, in most of the conditions of such modern and complex environment of business
companies where most of the employees are immigrants, it becomes hard for employees
to secure their economic well-being.
In reality, because of the fact that many business companies not only in Kuwait, but also
in other regions of the world, are more likely to offer limited economic opportunities to
their immigrant employees. In this concern, KTUF plays its major role with the purpose
to speak for the economic rights and privileges of employees, especially immigrants, as a
way to improve the economic well-being of employees whereas showing some real-life
cases of employees to their employers to encourage employers to offer some kind of extra
and work-based bonuses and incentives to their employees (Times, 2016).
Project to support interests of labor
Exploitation of labor, within the circle of business industries have become one of the
modern and controversial issues, because of various forces of exploitation towards
employees by their employers or managers. Over the exploitation, employers limit their
hands to offer some benefits like paid leaves, compensation in situation where an
employee has an accident, wage increase etc.
Additionally, in some cases employers do not even bother about to make their long-term
working employees as permanent employees over their long- services at the company.
Over such conditions, KTUF plays its role to talk about the security of employees in
different aspects of their professional lives so that they can feel connected and supported
by their employers or managers, during the time of their services at the company.
Major Aims of KTUF
Since the establishment of Kuwait Trade Union Federation, many changes have been
occurring within the internal and external outlook of business companies, especially when
it comes about to talk about changing conditions of labor force and the laws associated
with labor in different regions of the Arab nations, especially in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia,
Oman, Muscat, and Dubai, as such nations are increasingly encountering with labor

issues. In this respect, KTUF has been working with the purpose to achieve different aims,
as one of the non-governmental organization working for trade union employees and their
leaders.
To raise voice against any harmful labor law
To establish relationships with licensed unions
To protect the rights of private employees, especially immigrants
To overcome the issue of labor discrimination
To promote anti-union discrimination law
To stand against and speak against forced labor
To stand for the sustainable growth of workers, especially unskilled labor force

Trade union play a major role, especially when it comes about to settle conflict of interest
and other issues of workers involving wage issues, working hours etc. In this concern,

  • 2. 2/5 History or Background of KTUF: Kuwait Trade Union Federation was discovered in 1968 as one of the major national trade union hub in Kuwait. The KTUF is non-governmental organization working separately without the support of the government and acts like a middle party, particularly when it comes about to resolve tensions and conflict of interest between government and leaders as well as workers of unions, in an effective manner through the use of a secure means of communication, whereas taking considerations about the concerns of both sides. Therefore, KTUF defend such employees in the favor of union or non-union employees whereas demanding suitable working conditions along with other supporting facilities to be provided by the higher authorities of companies to workers. Project for developing relationships between employers and workers: Kuwait is one of the Arab nations and, for this reason, many foreign workers move towards Kuwait to find new job opportunities and to improve their financial conditions of personal and familial lives as well. Over this fact, it would not be wrong to say that in various companies of Kuwait it becomes hard for foreign employees to establish secure and trustful relationships with their employers, even most of the time it become difficult for immigrant employees to encounter with higher authorities.

Project for Economic Wellbeing of Employees As mentioned above, in Kuwait, most of the employees are immigrant and they have come to Kuwait as a way to establish their economic well-being of life and, for this reason, they always desire to have secure and handsome economic means of survivals over their jobs. However, in most of the conditions of such modern and complex environment of business companies where most of the employees are immigrants, it becomes hard for employees to secure their economic well-being. In reality, because of the fact that many business companies not only in Kuwait, but also in other regions of the world, are more likely to offer limited economic opportunities to their immigrant employees. In this concern, KTUF plays its major role with the purpose to speak for the economic rights and privileges of employees, especially immigrants, as a way to improve the economic well-being of employees whereas showing some real-life cases of employees to their employers to encourage employers to offer some kind of extra and work-based bonuses and incentives to their employees (Times, 2016). Project to support interests of labor Exploitation of labor, within the circle of business industries have become one of the modern and controversial issues, because of various forces of exploitation towards employees by their employers or managers. Over the exploitation, employers limit their hands to offer some benefits like paid leaves, compensation in situation where an employee has an accident, wage increase etc. Additionally, in some cases employers do not even bother about to make their long-term working employees as permanent employees over their long- services at the company. Over such conditions, KTUF plays its role to talk about the security of employees in different aspects of their professional lives so that they can feel connected and supported by their employers or managers, during the time of their services at the company. Major Aims of KTUF Since the establishment of Kuwait Trade Union Federation, many changes have been occurring within the internal and external outlook of business companies, especially when it comes about to talk about changing conditions of labor force and the laws associated with labor in different regions of the Arab nations, especially in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Muscat, and Dubai, as such nations are increasingly encountering with labor
