SEVIS enables the sharing of information among the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of
State (DoS), and other institutions that provide education and training for international students and exchange visitors
(EVs). SEVIS also allows the DHS to meet the requirements of the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform
Act (H.R. 3525), which was signed into public law. SEVIS enables the schools and program sponsors to share a single
repository of data with the DHS and DoS throughout a student's or EV's program in the United States. Schools can
submit requests for adjudication of a reinstatement of a student to the DHS in real time. Program sponsors can
immediately submit requests for adjudication of updates to an EV, such as change of category, to the DoS.
