• Websites like Facebook has become a mini version
of the Internet.
• According to Facebook statistics, the country has
over 1.4 crore Facebook users as of 2012.

• Easy availability and economical services offered by
telecom services have made mobile phone
communication a viable mode of communication for
the masses.
• According to national statistics, Mobile phone
penetration stands at 66%, which is over 110 million
people (as of 2012).

DIGITALIZATION
• Many services – from both the government and private sector –
are now available through digital means.
• From January 2013 to June 2013, 45 million citizens took services
from Union Information Service Centers (UISC) across the country.
• The centers were launched 5 years ago as a hub where rural
population can easily access government services in a one-stop
center without hassles.
• Tk 130 million worth of transactions has been made and 36,000
citizens received e-medicine services through the UISCs
• In 2013 alone, over 1.1 million railway tickets were sold through
mobile phones – a new service launched 4 years ago.
• A total of 23 million transactions were made in the year to pay
utility bills over mobile phones in 2013.

conscious on healthy living and
wellness than they were five years
ago, overall awareness isn't as good
as it should be.
The status of health depends upon
the overall socio-economic
development. In a developing country
like Bangladesh the extremely low
income of most people pushes health
care to low priority.
• One of the biggest developments in the overall health sector in Bangladesh has
been the introduction of a health policy in 2011
• The policy focuses on healthcare as citizen’s basic right and reinstates the
government’s constitutional obligation to ensure health care for its citizens
• It also tries to ensure an effective health care system that responds to the
need of a healthy nation
