• Modeling on differential pumping in Linear Plasma Generator
Mentor: Prof. Aart W. Kleijn, CIDS May, 2015 - June, 2015
– The main objective of the project is to analyze the flow feature (which mainly includes the
position of the shock and the calculation of neutral flux) in the linear plasma generator.
– The basic principle behind the linear plasma generator and the need to simulate the flow
is understood.
– SPARTA code which is based on the DSMC method is used to simulate the flow inside the
plasma generator.
– The results obtained were qualitatively similar to those reported by van Eck in his paper
’Modeling and experiments on differential pumping in linear plasma generator at high gas
flows.’
• Thermal Protection System Design (TPS) for Mars Mission
Mentor: Prof. Rakesh Kumar Mathpal, IIT Kanpur May,2014 - June, 2014
– Solved reentry dynamics equations using explicit Runga-Kutta method for computation
of reentry trajectory and did the qualitative study of the trajectory optimization.
– Qualitative study of the properties of ablative materials that has been used in space cap-
sules to select the optimum material, based on availability and weight-density constraints.
