Dissertation Title: “CFD Modeling to investigate sediment entries to Marala Ravi Link Canal, Sialkot, Pakistan”.
Abstract: Sedimentation of canals is a big problem where the feeding rivers contain a large amount of sediments.
Irrigation systemof Pakistan is one of the largest systems fed by three large rivers; Indus, Jhelum and Chenab which
carry a lot of sediment. Hence there is an acute problem of sedimentation and scouring in canals. Sediment transport
in Marala Ravi Link canal has been investigated in this thesis. It is found that there is a serious problem of
sedimentation for present conditions in the canal. The sediment deposited has to be removed at regular intervals.
Numerical model “Sediment simulation in intakes with multi-block option” (SSIIM II) has been used for analyzing
the sediment flow and finding an appropriate solution to the problem. In this model the Nervier Stokes and sediment
continuity Equations are solved by Finite Volume Method. Van Rijn sediment flow formula and k -ε model for
resistance have been used for modeling. Most of the data including discharge from the barrage, sediment
concentration, and bed material gradation at various locations of the canal, various canal cross-sections, water depth
and velocity have been collected from Irrigation Department Head Marala, Sialkot, Pakistan. The other data was
collected from Program Monitoring and Implementation Unit of Punjab Irrigation and Power Department Lahore,
2. Pakistan. The sediment and flow parameters used in the model have been estimated using the field data. Fine tuning
of these parameters has been made in the calibration of SSIIM.
Provision of silt ejector has been studied and finally the non-silting non-scouring sediment conditions have been
found using SSIIM.

Dissertation Title: “Estimation, Construction Planning & Management Of Khattak Mall, Rawalpindi using
Primavera”.
Abstract: The interests of contractors to compete in the world market have increased due to the globalization of the
world. In this regard, meeting the required milestone within the optimum cost and project completion without delay
are few points to be taken care of. So there is a need of Project planning and Management keeping in view the site
considerations, availability of resources for project accomplishment and above all time span for the project.
In this project, estimation, management & planning of ten stories Khattak Mall Plaza in Rawalpindi, Pakistan is
studied. It is started with estimation then the total amount of work is calculated i.e.; Structural work, architectural
work, plumbing and electrification etc. The production factor to calculate number of days needed to complete the
respective activities. Then these are arranged in sequence and schedule them using Primavera Project Planner. At
last the results are obtained in tabulated form. This wide range of topics is of practical use to students and
practitioners studying and working in Building Construction, Surveying, Planning and Development. A part of
theory covers the concepts of Project Management and Planning using “Computer Added Management Skills”. Next
part gives a brief introduction of Construction Machinery used in modern Construction industry. It covers
comprehensive introduction of the building used to elaborate the process of Estimation, Planning and Management
using Computer Softwares.
