GIS principal task is to model the "real world", perform spatial analyses and ensure high accuracy of the optimization procedure. This helps to carry out different analyses like load analysis, location analysis, and problem identification analysis, also to find the average distributed power and utilized power. With this, the growing demand for electricity with growth rates and high densities can be satisfied in an optimum way. This study has demonstrated that geographic information systems (GIS) can be used as a decision-making tool to improve electricity distribution in Nigeria. There is a need for greater awareness to be created at all level of government of the need and what is required to establish GIS
2. To Identify unauthorized and non-registered connections
To show Connection type identification for consumers
Create a map that will show the spatial relationship between transformer and
consumer’s connectivity to the transformer.
The distributions of electrical energy to end users in most urban area are faced with
divers spatial problems particularly with the use of analogue system. Based on this,
this study seeks to use geospatial technique for effective management of electricity
distribution. The study assesses the spatial relationship between a Nigeria Disco's
assets and their customer’s connectivity and makes suggestions on how to improve
and manage electricity distribution. The result shows that, the study area has only one
transformer rated 500KVA with 2 uprisers connected to numerous distribution lines
serving 120 buildings.
3. Obele is a small community in Magbon town of Badagry, Lagos, Nigeria. Obele is located within
Latitude 6°27'37.12" and Longitude: 3°2'6.47" Obele is a sparsely populated area with an
estimated population of 200 to 300 people. The estimate terrain elevation above sea level is 11
meter.

After the project was created, next was to assign project to users.
In this case, I assigned a user to two projects. The POLE and the
CUSTOMER project.,

having the same specific code name
and number together
The satellite image was extracted
from Google earth image.
With the underlayed satellite image,
corrections were made to points that
were not well placed on buildings.
The main cause of this is due to the
inaccessibility of some building
12. RESULTS AND DISUSSION
map shows the flow of electricity
from the transformer to the poles
and from the poles to the consumers
(buildings). This shows the
customer’s connectivity to the
distribution network. The total
number of buildings served by the
transformer is 120 as deducted from
the attribute table

GIS can be used to monitor power loss as a result of metering inaccuracy in the distribution sector by
knowing the total number of customers using prepaid meter and those using postpaid meter as well as
those that their energy are not metered at all by the use of symbology. This system provides timely,
accurate and easier way of acquiring information, which is very vital in taking prompt and accurate
decisions.

From the pie chart, 63% of electricity users in obele are not having meter(neither prepaid nor
postpaid). 7% have by-passed their meter. While the remaining 30% are still legally connected.
This shows that this particular disco is running at a loss in this community. with this
analysis, they will be prompted to make better business decisions.
15. one of the aims and objectives of
enumerating the customers is to
identify the Connection type of
each users.
Knowing the phase designation of
each of their customers would
help the disco is determining the
tarrif and meter type to be
assigned to each user to avoid
over/under billing.
The data was further used to show
the customers on each uprisers. This can
be used to determine if a particular
upriser is overloaded and subsequent
action would be required to balance the
loads on each.
16. Using GIS allows for creating, maintaining, and querying of electrical database to generate
information, with an added capability to analyze spatial data, through attribute and location analysis
or spatial modeling, User can query any layer of the GIS map to get the attribute data for a particular
feature of that layer. User has to click on any feature of a particular layer to get the attribute of that
feature. The result of the query can also be used to determine how to carry out load shedding, which
can be used to reduce the load on an upriser that is already overloaded. The table of the building was
queried as shown in the snapshot above and the result of the query .This reduce the excess load on
the upriser that is overloaded, and such effective services will be rendered.
