4. Introduction
Bangladesh is predominantly a floodplain country.
Flood, drought, cyclone, river erosion, siltation,
and water scarcity in dry season have made
water management a challenging task. To
address these issues, the Institute of Flood
Control and Drainage Research was
established in 1974 and later renamed as
the Institute of Water and Flood Management
(IWFM) in 2002.

• Academic Programs:
The Institute offers post graduate degrees for the professionals and
fresh graduates with the objectives of training and enhancing the
knowledge and skills in planning and management of land and water
resources, and widening their perspectives on Integrated Water
Resources Management (IWRM).
• Degrees Offered:
1) Post Graduate Diploma in Water Resources Development
[PG.Dip. (WRD)]
2) M.Sc. in Water Resources Development [M.Sc. (WRD)]
3) Ph.D.

The vision of IWFM is to establish itself as a premier for the
Advancement of knowledge and development of human
resources in water and flood management.

researches.
