Arachidonic acid > comp. of phospholipids- its release by action of
phospholipase A2 ( via hormones & stimuli ) .
Synthesis : two major pathways Are cyclooxygenase , COX1 – 2 &

TYPES :
COX1 In most cells – regulates process as gastric cytoprotection & platelet
aggregation.
COX2 In tissues ( brain- kidney) - Increase during chronic inflammation –
Inducible – immediate early response gene product – Inhibited by glucocorticoids.
Lipo. : Form Leukotrienes { products of 5-lipoxygenase pathway of
arachidonic acid metabolism }
