o Performance evaluation is used to determine
and provide equitable salary treatment.

of performance, and people will not work

7. The Xerox Experience
o Before 1983 Xerox had a traditional appraisal system:
oNo planned objectives
oThe focus on the summary rating
oThe new system has 3 stages:
oAt the beginning of the year
oAt a mid-year
oAt year’s end

oEffective appraisal generates understanding and commitment,
leading to productivity.
oCareer development and performance appraisal support each other

9. Performance Standard
oA standard is a unit of measurement that can serve as a reference point

oPerformance standard:
oAre derived from job analysis, descriptions, evaluation, and other documents
oAre established by authority such as ANA.
oShould be based on appropriate knowledge, and should be practical enough
to be attained.
oMust be kept up-to-date.
