7. Company’s view on the current state of ammonia use in China
• We believe that there is a huge potential for ammonia to be used in industrial
refrigeration
– Ammonia is highly regulated and limited since the accidents of 2013
– Most projects cannot get approval from the local government.
– Ammonia has challenges with regulatory compliance.
• Design guidelines in China such as Ammonia Piping Handbook could include more
details to help avoid faulty designs, oversizing and low efficiency.
– There is a need for more periodicals, bulletins and training videos
• Pipes, valves and components of aged systems have very high corrosion and as such
its very difficult to guarantee a continued SAFE operation.

• Many ammonia systems are highly inefficient due to the presence of water and air
• Some ammonia systems are still operated manually until now
• Over the years we have observed a trend for ammonia systems to be oversized or
overcharged
• Low charge and ammonia DX at low and medium temperatures is still new China.
• Low charge and ammonia Dx can reduce initial cost and provide higher efficacy
versus traditional overfeed system.

• Process Safety Management & Risk Management Program guidelines should be
introduced to China
• System efficiency should always be a consideration during the design phase
• Adopt cloud based design and sizing solutions available now
• Develop corrosion prevention and removal service schedules within facilities
• Implement controls and automation to gradually move away from manual
operation of facilities
• Suppliers should collaborate to promote new technologies such as Ammonia Dx
and low charge to the market.
