HISTORY OF THE COMPANY
Birth Of The Ramco Cements Limited :
In the 1950s, investment in Cement Industry was not attractive due to price controls and the massive
investments required. Only those entrepreneurs who were not profit-minded but cared for the
country's development came forward to invest in the Cement Industry.
When Shri. Manubai Shah, Central Minister for Industries in late fifties came to Madras to meet the
Industrialists, he called upon Shri P A C Ramasamy Raja and requested him to start a cement factory
in TN. This was readily accepted by Shri PACR and this marked the birth of The Ramco Cements
Limited in 1961.

The Ramco Cements Limited is managed by a Board of Directors comprising of eminent
personalities as its members. Shri.P.R.Venketrama Raja has become the Chairman & Managing
Director of the Company with effect from 04-06-2017. The company board brings together a team of
business, administrative, financial and cement technology professionals who provide guidance and
direction to the company's operations in a competitive business environment. The Ramco Cements
Limited has been a pioneer in adopting corporate governance practices comparable to the best in the
country.

Financial Performance
The Company has always been rewarding the shareholders handsomely, by way of dividend and
issue of bonus shares. The Company is having a record of paying maximum percentage of dividend
to the shareholder, in the cement industry. A shareholder investing Rs.100/- in the share capital of the
Company at the time of incorporation, would have received Rs.1,786/- as dividend, yielding an
average annual return of 35.72%. The objective of the Company is to protect and enhance the value
of the shareholders' investment. Even during the initial stages of the Company, when the plant was
being set-up, RETURNS TO SHAREHOLDERS before commencement of commercial production
and earning of profits, the Company considered it necessary to reward its shareholders by paying
interest on the amount invested by them. The said investment of Rs.100/- would have risen to a value
of Rs.1,33,960/- as on 31.03.2008, yielding an annual average capital appreciation of 26.77%. The
Company has issued Bonus shares in the ratio of 1 : 1 in 1992 and 1994. Its Board of Directors have
also recommended a Bonus issue in the ratio of 1 : 1 for consideration in th the Annual General
Meeting to be held on 11 August 2008

2. It does not have a pan India operations as compared to
its competitors.

. It should enter into pan India operations to expand its
business.

the core of its expansion strategy.

RECENT DEVELOPMENT
Ramco Cements on a ₹3,430-cr capacity expansion drive
• The Ramco Cements, a prominent cement producer in south India, is undertaking one of
its largest capital expenditure programmes by investing ₹3,430 crore in a greenfield
cement unit in Andhra Pradesh and in brownfield expansion across two States over the
next 24 months.
• The company on Friday broke ground for a 3.16-million tonnes per annum (MTPA)
cement unit at Kalavatala in Kurnool district. The new facility, for which Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone on Friday, will entail an
investment of ₹1,500 crore.

  • 3. HISTORY OF THE COMPANY Birth Of The Ramco Cements Limited : In the 1950s, investment in Cement Industry was not attractive due to price controls and the massive investments required. Only those entrepreneurs who were not profit-minded but cared for the country's development came forward to invest in the Cement Industry. When Shri. Manubai Shah, Central Minister for Industries in late fifties came to Madras to meet the Industrialists, he called upon Shri P A C Ramasamy Raja and requested him to start a cement factory in TN. This was readily accepted by Shri PACR and this marked the birth of The Ramco Cements Limited in 1961.

  • 10. Financial Performance The Company has always been rewarding the shareholders handsomely, by way of dividend and issue of bonus shares. The Company is having a record of paying maximum percentage of dividend to the shareholder, in the cement industry. A shareholder investing Rs.100/- in the share capital of the Company at the time of incorporation, would have received Rs.1,786/- as dividend, yielding an average annual return of 35.72%. The objective of the Company is to protect and enhance the value of the shareholders' investment. Even during the initial stages of the Company, when the plant was being set-up, RETURNS TO SHAREHOLDERS before commencement of commercial production and earning of profits, the Company considered it necessary to reward its shareholders by paying interest on the amount invested by them. The said investment of Rs.100/- would have risen to a value of Rs.1,33,960/- as on 31.03.2008, yielding an annual average capital appreciation of 26.77%. The Company has issued Bonus shares in the ratio of 1 : 1 in 1992 and 1994. Its Board of Directors have also recommended a Bonus issue in the ratio of 1 : 1 for consideration in th the Annual General Meeting to be held on 11 August 2008

RECENT DEVELOPMENT Ramco Cements on a ₹3,430-cr capacity expansion drive • The Ramco Cements, a prominent cement producer in south India, is undertaking one of its largest capital expenditure programmes by investing ₹3,430 crore in a greenfield cement unit in Andhra Pradesh and in brownfield expansion across two States over the next 24 months. • The company on Friday broke ground for a 3.16-million tonnes per annum (MTPA) cement unit at Kalavatala in Kurnool district. The new facility, for which Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone on Friday, will entail an investment of ₹1,500 crore. Published on December 14, 2018
