MGMT-6083 Risk Assessment Case Study Summer 2018
Choose a Canadian company and complete a risk analysis for it. You will not be
required to interview anyone from the company but should have a clear idea of what
they do, their products and services and the scope of their operations.
Part A:
Identify the risks you think this company could be exposed to, document these risks and
classify them (categorize as appropriate). Use all information available to you including
information we have discussed in class to develop as comprehensive a list as possible.
Take into consideration the geographical area where your company operates to identify
natural hazards and political risks. TIP: Consider using a table within your document
that you can then add a controls/risk treatment column to during Part B of the project.
Part B:
Discuss risk treatment for five (5) of the identified risks. Each of the five (5) risks should
include:
- An assessment of likelihood and impact, in the form of a risk Heat Map indicating
the colour of severity of the risk
- Two (2) or more options for the treatment along with a recommendation as to
your preference on how to deal with that particular risk
Submit a written report indicating the company chosen and why you decided on this
company. Also indicate your sources of information about the company; website
address, Facebook page, company‘s Annual Report, newspaper and other news
sources. The more sources available to you the better will be your understanding of the
company’s exposures. Make sure your report is professional and has a cover page,
source information list, proper formatting and headers (don’t forget spelling and
grammar checks!).
Your final report, covering parts A and B, should not exceed 1,500 words (excluding
cover page and the source material listing). It should be descriptive and include an
overview of the company along with the presentation of risks (which as indicated can be
in a table).
(Please note: Your group needs to submit your work to the Dropbox by Aug 16 at
5PM. Each group member’s name and student number should be included on the
cover page of the report. This assignment is worth 30% of your final grade.
