ABSTRACT
Background Single homicide committed by women is rare. Serial killing is very
infrequent, and the perpetrators are usually white, intelligent males with sadistic ten-
dencies. Serial killing by women has, however, also been described.
Aim To conduct a review of published literature on female serial killers and consider
its usefulness in assessing a presenting case.
Method A literature review was conducted, after searching EMBASE, MEDLINE
and PsycINFO. The presenting clinical case is described in detail in the context of the
literature findings.
Results The literature search revealed few relevant publications. Attempts to catego-
rize the phenomenon of female serial killing according to patterns of and motives for
the homicides have been made by some authors. The most common motive identified
was material gain or similar extrinsic gratification while the ‘hedonistic’ sadistic or
sexual serial killer seems to be extremely rare in women. There is no consistent theory
of serial killing by women, but psychopathic personality traits and abusive childhood
experiences have consistently been observed. The authors’ case did not fit the descrip-
tion of a ‘typical’ female serial killer.
Discussion In such unusual circumstances as serial killing by a woman, detailed
individual case formulation is required to make sense of the psychopathology in each
case. Publication of cases in scientific journals should be encouraged to advance our

women (d’Orban, 1990; Kellermann and Mercy, 1992) but this ratio is different

of cases of spouse-killing the perpetrator was a woman. These women have
usually suffered long periods of abuse by their partner (Mercy and Saltzmann,
1989; Trube-Becker, 1982). This type of killing can be reconciled with the percep-
tion of women as nurturing and vulnerable, and only capable of extreme violence

The author looks at personality models, childhood environments, abuse histories, as well as mental health histories and found that there are comparisons that can be made to explain the similarities but also the differences, one of the big findings was in dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (Abe, 2017).
This is an important study as it seeks to find out about the killers as a whole rather than looking at singular factors. There is also a direction of where to take further research efforts in terms of mental health findings. PTSD is something that is still being studied for veterans so there is room to apply new studies to that of killers; mass or serial.

The authors completed a systemic review of literature about mass murderers as well as serial murderers to see if there was common ground that they had (Allely, Minnis, Thompson, Wilson & Gillberg, 2014). The authors found a common ground in three areas of sociological, psychological, and biological factors that seem to have contributed to the killer (Allely, et al., 2014). The authors also note that there appears to be a neurodevelopmental factor such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or a head injury that seems to play a role as well (Allely, et al., 2014). The authors call for more research to be completed that is current and more thorough as there is a lack of recent studies but also a more specific study to be geared towards the neurodevelopmental aspect (Allely, et al., 2014).
This study is important because it draws attention to the neurodevelopmental aspects that are often neglected in terms of serial killers. It is also important because it calls out the lack of research that is currently being done and not helping to further understanding.

The typologies that are used to describe the murderer is being an organized nonsocial thrill serial killer. The reason that this typology is chosen for this murderer is due to the fact that he performs aggressive acts on the victims of his crimes and has moved the body, which are traits for the organized nonsocial killer (Holmes & Holmes, 2009). Another reason for the killer being seen as organized is due to the fact that the murderer has sex with the victims before he kills them (Holmes & Holmes, 2009). The reason that the murder falls into the thrill subtype is due to the fact that the method of killing his victims comes in the fact that he strangles them (Holmes & Holmes, 2009). The other reason is that he has a specific type of victim that he goes for, young college age students and does not perform any violent action that is see as overkill or leading to a chaotic crime scene (Holmes & Holmes, 2009). The profilers that would look at this kind of case and others would display the strengths and weakness of this profession. The strength is due to the fact that have been shown being successful when it comes to predicting certain aspects of murderers, like body location and background information (Beasley, 2004; Holmes & Holmes, 2009). The weakness, however, is due to the fact that profiling is not accurate all of the time and has led to debates about its usefulness when it comes to murderers (Beasley, 2004; Holmes & Holmes, 2009).

For the crime scene case study this week, I have identified the serial killer as an organized nonsocial offender with a typology of power and control.
Organized Nonsocial:
The crime scene of an organized nonsocial offender is handled with more care and precision in destroying evidence. It will often kill at one site and dispose of a body at a different location (Holmes & Holmes, 2009). A disorganized killer is less likely to move a body as the murder will be done as a surprise attack versus a planned one. All three bodies showed signs of being moved and placed by the river. Organized killers are also likely to use a weapon that belongs to them that they remove from the crime scene. The first crime scene did have a belt on site, but the following two did not.
Power/Control:
A power/control serial killer will kill fueled by sexual gratification from domination (Holmes & Holmes, 2009). A power/ control killer will likely kill with a hands-on weapon like a belt. Additionally, strangulation is a domin.
PTSD And Violence
The document discusses research on the effects of music therapy in reducing anxiety, pain and physiological stress responses in patients undergoing spinal surgery, finding that music therapy significantly reduced pain, anxiety and stress levels compared to a control group who only received standard pain medication. The study used two groups, one that listened to music and did not take pain medication, and a control group that only took prescribed pain medication, finding the music group experienced greater relief from pain and stress.

This study analyzes 9 qualitative studies on how women label unwanted sexual experiences. It identifies 7 categories of factors that influence labeling: 1) Self-blame, 2) Normalization of violence, 3) Rejection of the term "sexual violence", 4) Understanding events based on rape scripts, 5) Ambivalence around labeling, 6) Labeling due to violence/impacts, 7) Labeling facilitated by social support/education. Results show labeling is complex, with women minimizing events, justifying perpetrators or avoiding labels due to rape myths and scripts. Seeking support or information can help with identification of sexual violence.

Many women do not label their unwanted sexual experiences as rape or sexual violence, but rather use various labels that suggest a different understanding of the events. This metasynthesis provides new insights and empirical evidence of how girls and women discuss their unwanted sexual experiences, and identifies factors that impede or promote such labeling. Qualitative data of 9 studies were synthetized using Noblit and Hare's (1988) framework. Results show that victims can frame sexual violence within rape scripts that may lead to minimization, normalization, self-blame or rationalization of the event. Some participants hold an ambivalent discourse, which suggests that labeling is a fluctuating process. Finally, seeking social support, or receiving educational information seem to facilitate the labeling of sexual violence. The implications for intervention and sexual violence prevention programs are discussed.

5Introduction
Sexual violence is a social problem, mainly affecting girls and women, that can lead to significant psychosocial consequences (Rhew, Stappenbeck, Bedard-Gilligan, Hughes, & Kaysen, 2017). In the United States, more than one-quarter of women experienced unwanted sexual contact in their lifetime, while one-third experienced some form of noncontact unwanted sexual experience in their lifetime (Basile, Smith, Breiding, Black, & Mahendra, 2014). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines sexual violence as “a sexual act that is committed or attempted by another person without freely given consent of the victim or against someone who is unable to consent or refuse” (Basile et al., 2014, p. 11). Sexual violence includes rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual coercion without physical force and unwanted sexual contact (Basile et al., 2014). This term is inclusive of the various forms of sexual victimization that are not necessarily criminalized, especially since legal frameworks vary from one country to another. This definition allows for the conception of sexual violence on a continuum, as many feminist researchers have suggested, since the pioneering work of Kelly (1987) and Hanmer
(1977).

Organized Nonsocial:
The crime scene of an organized nonsocial offender is handled with more care and precision in destroying evidence. It will often kill at one site and dispose of a body at a different location (Holmes & Holmes, 2009). A disorganized killer is less likely to move a body as the murder will be done as a surprise attack versus a planned one. All three bodies showed signs of being moved and placed by the river. Organized killers are also likely to use a weapon that belongs to them that they remove from the crime scene. The first crime scene did have a belt on site, but the following two did not.

Sexual violence is a social problem, mainly affecting girls and women, that can lead to significant psychosocial consequences (Rhew, Stappenbeck, Bedard-Gilligan, Hughes, & Kaysen, 2017). In the United States, more than one-quarter of women experienced unwanted sexual contact in their lifetime, while one-third experienced some form of noncontact unwanted sexual experience in their lifetime (Basile, Smith, Breiding, Black, & Mahendra, 2014). The typologies I employed to define the killer in the case study are Power/Control Serial Killer and hedonistic. I chose the power/ control killers for the case studies because the killer tended to demonstrate control over the victims before killing them. In the three cases, the bodies were dragged into the place, and Lacerations on the neck showed the victims were probably strangled to death. In addition, the killer seems to have a preferred type of victim: young college girls aged between 20-21years who are weaker than the killer.
Hence it was easy to take control of them, which probably made the killer feel more powerful. The killer seems very intelligent and manipulative, using their victims as pawns in a game they only know how to play. Therefore, the crime scenes exhibited a calculated and organized, cautious approach. The murderer exhibits violent behavior by sexually assaulting the victims, and the river is their favored place to dump off the dead. The most probable kind of serial killer to dump their victims' bodies is the power or control murderers (Holmes & Holmes 2009).
The hedonistic is the second typology that I employed to define the case, study murderer. In contrast to the rapid killing more typical of other murderers, whose crimes may be regarded as act-focused, this class of hedonistic murderers' crimes is methodical and typically requires some time to complete. (Holmes & Holmes 2009). The three cases portly sexual gratification where the victims were sexually assaulted and tortured by the murderer, which is one of the common attributes of a hedonistic killer.
Using profiling to find and capture mass and serial murderers has the benefit of assisting detectives in identifying potential suspects. By analyzing the behavior of known offenders, profilers can develop a profile of what an offender might look like and what kinds of characteristics they may have (Beasley, 2004). This information can then be used to narrow down the pool of suspects in an investigation. In addition, Criminal profiling can assist in reducing the list of potential suspects and implementing strategies that increase the likelihood of an arrest (Holmes & Holmes 2009). Profiling can assist law enforcement in locating a different material or tool when there is hardly any proof at the crime site.
A limitation of utilizing profiling to catch serial or mass killers is that it is not always accurate. Many factors often go into why someone commits these crimes, and not all offenders fit neatly into a specific profile (Holmes & Holmes 2009). In addition, according to Douglas et al. (1986), even if an investigator does find someone who fits the profile perfectly, there is no guarantee that this person committed the crime(s) in question.

Addressing the Safety and Trauma Issues of Abused Women
This document summarizes a study that evaluated the needs, trauma symptoms, and safety issues of 368 women residing in 10 domestic violence shelters across Canada. However, these theories vary tremendously in terms of the proposed factors that lead to the development of serial and mass murderers. The typologies I employed to define the killer in the case study are Power/Control Serial Killer and hedonistic. I chose the power/ control killers for the case studies because the killer tended to demonstrate control over the victims before killing them. In the three cases, the bodies were dragged into the place, and Lacerations on the neck showed the victims were probably strangled to death. In addition, the killer seems to have a preferred type of victim: young college girls aged between 20-21years who are weaker than the killer.
Hence it was easy to take control of them, which probably made the killer feel more powerful. The killer seems very intelligent and manipulative, using their victims as pawns in a game they only know how to play. Therefore, the crime scenes exhibited a calculated and organized, cautious approach. The murderer exhibits violent behavior by sexually assaulting the victims, and the river is their favored place to dump off the dead. The most probable kind of serial killer to dump their victims' bodies is the power or control murderers (Holmes & Holmes 2009).
The hedonistic is the second typology that I employed to define the case, study murderer. In contrast to the rapid killing more typical of other murderers, whose crimes may be regarded as act-focused, this class of hedonistic murderers' crimes is methodical and typically requires some time to complete. (Holmes & Holmes 2009). The three cases portly sexual gratification where the victims were sexually assaulted and tortured by the murderer, which is one of the common attributes of a hedonistic killer.
Using profiling to find and capture mass and serial murderers has the benefit of assisting detectives in identifying potential suspects. By analyzing the behavior of known offenders, profilers can develop a profile of what an offender might look like and what kinds of characteristics they may have (Beasley, 2004). This information can then be used to narrow down the pool of suspects in an investigation. In addition, Criminal profiling can assist in reducing the list of potential suspects and implementing strategies that increase the likelihood of an arrest (Holmes & Holmes 2009). Profiling can assist law enforcement in locating a different material or tool when there is hardly any proof at the crime site.
A limitation of utilizing profiling to catch serial or mass killers is that it is not always accurate. Many factors often go into why someone commits these crimes, and not all offenders fit neatly into a specific profile (Holmes & Holmes 2009). In addition, according to Douglas et al. (1986), even if an investigator does find someone who fits the profile perfectly, there is no guarantee that this person committed the crime(s) in question.

impede or promote such labeling. Qualitative data of 9 studies were synthetized using Noblit and Hare's (1988)
framework. Results show that victims can frame sexual violence within rape scripts that may lead to mini-
mization, normalization, self-blame or rationalization of the event. Some participants hold an ambivalent dis-
course, which suggests that labeling is a fluctuating process. Finally, seeking social support, or receiving edu-
cational information seem to facilitate the labeling of sexual violence. The implications for intervention and
sexual violence prevention programs are discussed.
1. Introduction
Sexual violence is a social problem, mainly affecting girls and
women, that can lead to significant psychosocial consequences (Rhew,
Stappenbeck, Bedard-Gilligan, Hughes, & Kaysen, 2017). In the United
States, more than one-quarter of women experienced unwanted sexual
contact in their lifetime, while one-third experienced some form of non-
contact unwanted sexual experience in their lifetime (Basile, Smith,
Breiding, Black, & Mahendra, 2014). The Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention defines sexual violence as “a sexual act that is com-
mitted or attempted by another person without freely given consent of
the victim or against someone who is unable to consent or refuse”
(Basile et al., 2014, p. 11). Sexual violence includes rape, attempted
rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual coercion without phy-
sical force and unwanted sexual contact (Basile et al., 2014). This term
is inclusive of the various forms of sexual victimization that are not
necessarily criminalized, especially since legal frameworks vary from
one country to another. This definition allows for the conception of
sexual violence on a continuum, as many feminist researchers have
suggested, since the pioneering work of Kelly (1987) and Hanmer
(1977).
While research confirms the high prevalence of sexual violence, few
events of sexual violence are reported to the authorities. According to

Addressing the Safety and Trauma Issues of Abused Women
This document summarizes a study that evaluated the needs, trauma symptoms, and safety issues of 368 women residing in 10 domestic violence shelters across Canada. The study assessed women upon entering and exiting shelters using the Danger Assessment and Impact of Event Scale-Revised. It found that over 75% of women were in the extreme or severe danger range upon entry based on the Danger Assessment. Many theories try to explain why some people become serial or mass murderers. However, these theories vary tremendously in terms of the proposed factors that lead to the development of serial and mass murderers. Some theories, for example, emphasize the role of social factors, such as the family. Other theories highlight the importance of psychological factors, such as personality traits, and still other theories focus on the role of biological factors, such as neurological functioning. In isolation, none of these theories provides a definitive explanation for why some people develop into serial or mass murderers. Integrating knowledge from each theory provides for a well-rounded explanation of serial and mass murderers.
Theoretical perspectives not only provide some insight into the causes for the development of serial and mass murderers but also assist criminal profilers in creating a psychological profile of a serial or mass murderer. For instance, suppose a criminal profiler realizes that a serial murderer's crime scene reveals evidence consistent with the attachment theory. Based on this theory, the criminal profiler would likely point out that the serial murderer had a dysfunctional childhood that was marked with emotional abuse, physical abuse, or both by the parents. Theories of serial and mass murderers therefore allow criminal profilers to predict the characteristics not revealed at the crime scene.

Review Chapter 4 of your course text, Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. Reflect on the theories of serial and mass murderers and consider how they are similar. In addition, consider how the theories are different from each other, such as whether they focus on factors identifiable at birth, related to personality development, or found in the environment.
Review the book excerpt, "The Making of a Serial Killer." Consider the various factors identified as potential causes of serial and mass murderers.
Review the article "Serial Murder and the Case of Aileen Wuornos: Attachment Theory, Psychopathy, and Predatory Aggression." Focus on how attachment theory is different from the other theories, such as psychoanalytic theory and constitutional theories, discussed in Chapter 4 of Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. In addition, consider how theories such as attachment theory may be better suited than other theories to explain female serial murderers.

opinions on the English language and its variations in this country or others. I am a writer. And
by that definition, I am someone who has always loved language. I am fascinated by
language in daily life. I spend a great deal of my time thinking about the power of language—the
way it can evoke an emotion, a visual image, a complex idea, or a simple truth. Language is the
tool of my trade. And I use them all—all the Englishes I grew up with.
Recently, I was made keenly aware of the different Englishes I do use. I was giving a talk
to a large group of people, the same talk I had already given to half a dozen other groups. The
nature of the talk was about my writing, my life, and my book, The Joy Luck Club. The talk was
going along well enough, until I remembered one major difference that made the whole talk
sound wrong. My mother was in the room. And it was perhaps the first time she had heard me
give a lengthy speech, using the kind of English I have never used with her. I was saying things
like, “The intersection of memory upon imagination” and “There is an aspect of my fiction that
relates to thus-and-thus”—a speech filled with carefully wrought grammatical phrases, burdened,
it suddenly seemed to me, with nominalized forms, past perfect tenses, conditional phrases, all
the forms of standard English that I had learned in school and through books, the forms of
English I did not use at home with my mother.
Just last week, I was walking down the street with my mother, and I again found myself
conscious of the English I was using, the English I do use with her. We were talking about the
price of new and used furniture and I heard myself saying this: “Not waste money that way.” My
husband was with us as well, and he didn't notice any switch in my English. And then I realized
why. It’s because over the twenty years we’ve been together, I’ve often used that same kind of
English with him, and sometimes he even uses it with me. It has become our language of
intimacy, a different sort of English that relates to family talk, the language I grew up with.

Robert V. Guthrie, one of the most influential and multifaceted African-American scholars of the century, wants to be remembered only as 'an American psychologist.' In an interview with the Monitor, he recollects the barriers he overcame to claim that title.

In 1955, when Robert Guthrie, PhD, enrolled in a master's program at the University of Kentucky, he was a singular dark face against a backdrop of white.
"I remember one of my white professors eyeing me as if I were an anthropological specimen and remarking, 'You are from one of our Negro schools,'" Guthrie recalls.
His fellow white students didn't offer much support, either, he says, though he once attended a football game after a white student begged him. But when the band played "My Ol' Kentucky Home," a song that at the time included favorable portrayals of slavery, Guthrie knew he had to "get my education, then get the hell off campus."
Despite the discomfort and frustration he felt, however, Guthrie always knew he had a right to be there. That sense of confidence is what propelled him to pursue a degree in psychology when few blacks could, to go on to teach at the University of Pittsburgh, to study multicultural issues as a senior research psychologist in Washington, D.C., and to pen the now-classic tome, "Even the Rat Was White: A Historical View of Psychology."
Last spring, the National Archives of American Psychology honored Guthrie as the first African-American psychologist to deposit his papers there. Asking Guthrie to contribute was a natural choice for the archives because he has worn almost every one of psychology's hats, from research to teaching to government service, says director David Baker, PhD.
"We know almost nothing about the development of psychology at historically black colleges and universities, and only Bob Guthrie's work examines this in detail," Baker explains. "African Americans have much to be proud about their struggle against adversity, like the fact that in my lifetime they were not allowed to attend many grad schools simply because of their race. There are stories of inspiration, courage and strength, and also of anger, frustration and hurt."

Guthrie and his twin brother were born in Chicago on Feb. 14, 1932. Weeks later, his father, a school principal, picked up the family and moved to Richmond, Ky., then to Lexington, Ky., towns in great need of teachers for African-American schools.
Growing up in the segregated South left an indelible mark on Guthrie's career outlook. "I did not think I would have an outstanding career," he says. "I was simply growing up in segregated Kentucky, and as at that time black colleges were training teachers to operate primarily in the Southern schools, I figured I might be a public school teacher. I did not know much about psychology. No one did."

Most gunshot victims do not die. In some estimates, 80
percent live to see another day. Yet social scientists
continue to focus on gun homicide. What happens to
individuals who get shot and survive? How do they
experience life after the shooting? This article examines
how gunshot injuries transform the lives of victims. In
practical ways, gunshot injuries complicate sleeping,
eating, working, and other previously taken-for-granted
activities. These disruptions also have much larger exis
tential significance to victims. Indeed, daily experiences
with a wounded body become subjective reminders that
individuals are no longer who they used to be. Ironically,
in some interactions, being wounded becomes attrac
tive and advantageous to victims. Together, these
themes illustrate the need for more sustained ethno
graphic work on the foreground of violent crime vic
timization.

The technological factors are one of the external factors that are increasingly affecting the business organization. The business changes relate to the presence and the development of technology.
The technology increases the supply of the products. The increase in the supply enables the company to keep up with the demand for the soft drinks. The technology enables the company to increase the productivity and the communication between the suppliers and the consumers. The company can cut down the waste as well as keep up with the demands due to technological advancement. The technology also increased the accuracy in production due to the machinery that was more accurate than the human labour and the company was able to cut down the waste again. The company reduced its expenditure in terms of the losses incurred due to poor production.
It is important to consider the environment while thinking about the strategy change. The supply and demand within the business affect organizational ability. The demand and the supply stimulate each other impacting the prices of the goods and services in the budget. The customer's interest in specific products exhausts the supply available and increases demand. The demand and supply of goods and services have a high influence in determining the prices of goods and services. The prices of the product are likely to fall if the supply keeps on growing and if the supply keeps on decreasing the prices are likely to keep on growing (Becker, 2017). However, with the market economy, the interest consumers, as well as the companies, produce limits product that matches the demand and the supply and it is used in determining the product development and production.

This document provides an overview of wound healing, its functions, stages, mechanisms, factors affecting it, and complications.
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.
