2. PRACTICE MANAGERS PREPARE FOR ICD-10
Create an ICD-10 Team
• Create a team to help facilitate ICD-10
implementation with staff and
physicians. The team should include
you, your billing manager, a key
physician, and anyone else critical to
the success of your team. Assign team
members with tasks and deadlines.

Assess Your Vendors
• Make a list of all your vendors – EHR, PM,
lab, etc – and start the conversation of
how they’re preparing for ICD-10.
Develop a map of how each software
impacts the other and create a strategy
for updating any software needed.

Develop a Training Plan
Prepare Your Budget
• Develop separate training plans for
the areas of your practice – patient
care, coding and billing, physicians,
etc. Assemble documentation and
quick tips and start scheduling
software training.
• The conversion to ICD-10 needs to
be a part of your 2014 budget. Adjust
your budget to account for software
upgrades, training costs, as well as
slightly less productivity as ICD-10
is implemented and staff attend
training sessions.
