product use, develop or

conventions of real media
products?

Cover:
• Both covers have a similar style of mast head with large eye
catching heading with a smaller line of text above explaining
quickly the contents of the magazine.
• Both covers have a similar colour scheme and font text and
size.
• Even though the style of photography on each cover is
different, I have followed the conventions of having a
powerful and eye catching image where the models eyes are
clear to see are the second part of the magazine the buyer
will see after the masthead and it will draw there attention
to the rest of the cover.
• I have followed the Mixmag media convention through text
layout shown here.
• The layout of text is very much similar to the Mixmag cover I
took inspiration from.
• The name of the magazine is displayed clearly at the top of
the cover on both magazines. I shadowed the outline of the
text to make it really pop out and draw attention to it.

5. Contents:
• The first obvious difference is the colour scheme. I
followed conventional standards for a magazine
where I implemented a house style with similar
colours and fonts running through the magazine.
• The photo used in the Mixmag magazine fits the
energetic dance magazine feel however I preferred
the image I used as it had a more laid
back, enigmatic feel to it and I felt it complemented
the contents list as it looks like he is looking at it
which draws the audience into the text.
• I wanted to use a more modern image then one of a
CD cover as my audience is a generation who grew
up with iPhone’s around them.
• By using Poll Daddy and researching the audience of
Mixmag I decided on a photo concept that
incorporated the mature, sophisticated appeal
along with someone who would be young enough
for my audience to relate too.
6. • I chose this advert as I felt it complimented the
magazine as a whole. From the results in my poll I
chose Dance as the theme of my magazine. I have
mentioned Tiesto in a story on my contents page so
it made sense to have an advert of his in the
magazine.

8. Double Page Spread:
• This part of the magazine is where I took the
least inspiration from another magazine. I
had an idea in my head and I went for it.
• I used a similar layout to the MixMag
example however I based a lot of my design
on the image as it was the main focus of the
DPS.
• I used a similar style of heading and underline
text.
• I had a different body of text as I wanted to
make it more like an interview. Whereas the
example has a thick unstructured body of text
I have separated the questions off and made
them shape round his arm.
• I used the image as I wanted it to take up the
right hand side of the page similar to the
MixMag example.
• I added a quote to the far right from the text
in larger letters to draw the audience to
reading the whole interview. This is a
standard media technique.
