Personal Reflection Extract #1 (Days 1-13) 30 July 2010
Reflection Paper on the First Thirteen Days of the EDUC 190-WFR Class
One of the most important things I’ve acquired from the class is the means to
search for useful and free software tools that are available online. The software tools
which were shared to the class were very helpful since the tools are easy to use and
accessible to all possible users especially to future teachers. This part of each class
meetings, specifically on every group presentation, provides additional knowledge to
each student, be it new or a refresher course. But also, a good part of this is that the
reporters are also knowledgeable with regards to how such software should be used.
Another good point from the class is that the discussions are interactive and are
relevant. Basically, the topics are, most importantly, socially-inclined and are rooted to
the realistic needs and circumstances existing in the society. For example, the
campaign of the free-source versus the open-source software tools and how these two
are related to either the development or the stunting of the growth of the use of
technology in the educational system worldwide. Through these kinds of discussions, I
was able to widen my views on how to effectively use technology that will help enhance
the instruction of a lesson. Thus, with these, I am able to learn how to become more
critical of the relationship of the role of the education technology to the uplifting of the
quality of the education system.
One more thing that I’ve developed, if not learned in this class is how to become
more responsible of using technology considering its influence on the current situation
2. of the education we have nowadays. However, even if the technological advancements
are consistently increasing, there are still things that should be remembered amidst the
escalating trend in the field of education technology. That the teachers need not be and
should not be dependent on what technology can offer in order to help ease the efforts
in making instructional materials and such needs for teaching.
As I have already expected, the lessons were informative and helpful enough to
provide the latest updates on technological software or gadget plus its features and the
boons and the banes of a certain tool. It’s quite alarming nowadays that people only try
to use everything at their expense without even trying to comprehend first the possible
consequences of their actions. Also, I feel more comfortable and more confident in
using the tools shared in every lecture since the details regarding those have been
already examined and considered.
After the first thirteen days of the class, I feel like I have already acquired certain
knowledge that would help best serve as foundations on being a responsible and
informed future educator.
