It is new area that combines living, working, shopping and the private sector. The private sector is the businesses in research- driven industries such as pharmaceuticals, technology, specialized manufacturing, university and educational or healthcare institution. With the innovation neighborhood came up, the traditional neighborhood street Main street is functioned as “Third places”, neither home nor workplace. People in this street can see movies, eat at restaurants, attended church, etc. In United States, after Depression and World war II, many people have their own car and very few neighborhoods could continue to support Main Street as a retail center. Most urban Main Street did not retain their traditional scale and character. The Suburban malls grew larger and came to dominate their markets. Then the urban Main Street should be focus on amenity, walkability, and authenticity, local experience that are the antithesis of the formulas and mass production that drive suburban malls.
As the city developed, urban designer should look forward. The Final Project is made up of two parts; both will be based on the Wayne Williams/Atlanta Child Murders case. The proliferation and adoption of data, sensors, mobile phones and social media technology present new ways of capturing conversations surrounding events in real-time. There is high demand for products that allow law enforcement and criminal investigators and others to explore events by monitoring many transmedia sources (social media sources like Facebook and Twitter, photos, news sources, and tweets) and relating that activity to historic data sets like neighborhood maps, crime databases and other digital records.

For my Capstone Project I choose Crime Analysis Technology and techniques of fighting crimes. There is so much crime solving, current or cold case based on ever-evolving technology and the access it gives crime fighters. Funding agencies such as the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of The National Academies make their online grant databases publicly available which document a variety of information on grants that have been funded over the past few decades. In this paper, based on a quantitative analysis of the TRB’s Research In Progress (RIP) online database, we explore the feasibility of automatically estimating the appropriate funding level, given the textual description of a transportation research project. We use statistical Text Mining (TM) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies to build this model using the 14,000 or more records of the TRB’s RIP research grants big data. Several Natural Language Processing (NLP) based text representation models such as the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) and the Doc2Vec Machine Learning (ML) approach are used to vectorize the project descriptions and generate semantic vectors. Each of these representations is then used to train supervised regression models such as Random Forest (RF) regression. Out of the three latent feature generation models, we found LDA gives the least Mean Absolute Error (MAE) using 300 feature dimensions and RF regression model. However, based on the correlation coefficients, it was found that it is not very feasible to accurately predict the funding level directly from the unstructured project abstract, given the large variations in source agencies, subject areas, and funding levels. By using separate prediction models for different types of funding agencies, funding levels were better correlated with the project abstract.More Related Content

For your Final Project, you will take on the role of the commander of the investigations division. You have been tasked to write a report for the chief’s office on the Wayne Williams’ case evidence. Additionally, you have been requested to create a video presentation for a citizens’ police academy class, which is currently reviewing the crime scene evidence analysis of the Wayne Williams’ case.
Wayne Williams Case Evidence Staff Study—Part I: The Written Report
The Written Report must include evidence from all of the different crime scenes of the Williams’ case. In your report, you must
1. Explain different techniques used to process non-biological trace, biological, and digital evidence in the field, as well as a laboratory setting relevant to this case.
2. Compare how major pieces of evidence were handled at the time of discovery and contrast that to how it would be handled today.
3. Examine legal and ethical issues related to judicial admissibility regarding collection and forensic testing of non-biological, biological, and digital evidence, including current challenges and emerging issues that are relevant to the case.
4. Analyze any legal or court issues that have emerged subsequent to the initial investigation.
5. Differentiate evidence admissibility standards between then and now.
6. Explain the differences in handling or processing procedures and the evolution in forensics that have occurred that would influence this case.
7. Evaluate the preferred methods and techniques used in the field and the laboratory as they pertain to this case.

Project 1 Assignment:
Using the designated topic listed below (see, Topics), you will search the UMUC Library Services databases and the Internet for resource material that explains, clarifies, critiques, etc. the topic.
1. Your Resource Research and Review project must contain four (4) outside sources (not instructional material for this course), at least two of which must come from the UMUC Library data base.
2. Locate books, periodicals, and documents that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic. You may conduct your research with the assistance of a UMUC librarian, reviewing your own personal materials on the topic, using the Internet, visiting an actual library, etc. and reviewing the available items. Project 2 – Research Paper Background: You are employed on the staff of the Association for Municipal Cities – a “think-tank” organization of researchers who take on projects for various mayors and city managers. You specialize in research on the organization and operation of the police department.The League’s latest client is the City of Virtual. The Virtual City Police Department was created 63 years ago. The department has emerged as one of the primary policing agencies in the state. It has become a modern police department with 155 sworn officers. There are 70 civilian employees appointed to positions ranging from clerical support to correctional officers to crime scene technicians. The department is considered “medium” size in the spectrum of police departments across the country. (The organizational chart is the same as the chart for Project 1.) You are informed that the Mayor is aware of some members of the City Council who are keenly interested in purchasing and deploying surveillance drones.These unmanned aircraft would be equipped with cameras which would feed real-time images to an intelligence center in the Virtual Police Department headquarters. While the drones would spend most of their “flight time” on patterned patrol, they could also be dispatched to support calls for service, locate suspects, track fleeing vehicles and otherwise serve in a response mode in support of “first responder” police units. The Mayor is also aware that there is opposition from other members of the City council who may acknowledge some benefits to the surveillance drones, but who will challenge her on the cost, potential for Constitutional-based privacy violations, etc. A significant number of councilpersons feel the money could be better spent on more sworn personnel and civilian technicians. The Mayor has asked the League to prepare a literature-research position paper for her on moving forward with this proposal (or not) based on the pros and cons uncovered in your research. She may ultimately use this objective research document as part of her portfolio on the appropriate use of technology in support of public safety. Assignment: As a member of the staff of the Association for Municipal Cities, you have been assigned to prepare a research paper for the Mayor of Virtual City on the purchase of the surveillance drones and initiation this support unit. She has asked that you present both the pros and cons as objectively as possible. Your personal recommendation is not part of this research report. Formatting requirements: Your report should include: • A cover page with your name, project title, course, and date submitted • An introductory section that explains the purpose of the paper • Five (5) FULL narrative pages,
- 2. +/- a half-page, (not including cover page and references page) separated by no more than double spacing, 12 pt. font, and 1 inch margins. • The composition may be a combination of outline and narrative with outline statements and submit to the assignment folder. • At least 4 external sources; 2 supporting police use of surveillance drones and 2 against them. o External sources should come from the UMUC Library data base materials or other peer- review publications such as professional journals, peer-review articles, etc. Because these materials are more creditable, they will receive higher point consideration. Internet-based Wikipedia is never an external resource.
