LAV3: NO-GO
1. LAV-III is NOT ‘transportable’ on C-130 Aircraft
Why is the LAV-III not transportable in a C-130?
Because the Army’s Traffic Management Command (MTMC) says so:
(See Reference B., pages 7 and 8)
- At 38,000 pounds, it is too heavy.
- At 105 inches high, it is too tall.
- At 105 inches wide, it is too wide at the permanent floor cargo rails.
Vehicle Weight Height Width [wheels or tracks]
C-130 a/c * 32,000 (A.4) 102” (A.3) 102” for ‘wheels’ (A.3)
100” for ‘tracks’ (A.3)
LAV-III 38,000 105” ** 105” = no fit !
M113A3 (B.2) 23,900 99” 100” at tracks ***
* See last Para on page 4, Ref. A. 102”
allowed
** Height may be reducible by vehicle re-design.
*** MTMC error: Actual track width is 98” (for M8 AGS, also)
