7. 6. SOME OF OUR INITIAL IDEAS ARE:
• USING GREEN SCREEN FOR THE CHORUS WITH THE INCLUSION OF LIP SYNCING
• CREATING THE NARRATIVE SO THAT THE MAIN CHARACTER IS IN A DREAM AND LOADS OF WEIRD THINGS HAPPEN IN IT
• HAVING EACH CHARACTER AS A COLOUR SO THAT THERE IS A BRIGHT COLOUR PALETTE
• HAVING SOME STOP MOTION/ SPED UP CLIPS SO THAT THERE IS A VARIATION OF IMAGES SHOWN AND CREATES A FAST PACED, EXCITING PIECE
• THE TONE OF THE VIDEO WILL BE FUN AND KIND OF WACKY SO AS TO GRAB THE AUDIENCE’S ATTENTION
• PROPS ARE GOING TO BE A KEY PART OF THE VIDEO SO THAT THE ACTORS CAN INTERACT WITH THEM AS WELL AS SETTING THE SCENE
• THE SETTING FOR THE VIDEO WILL BE A FOREST AND A PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO
• HIGH KEY LIGHTING AND A TINTED FILTER WITH A FADE WILL BE USED FOR THE DREAM PARTS AND BLACK AND WHITE FOR THE REAL LIFE PARTS; THIS WILL CREATE A CLEAR DIVIDE
BETWEEN FANTASY AND REALITY
PLEASE GIVE SOME RESPONSE ON THESE IDEAS AS TO WHAT YOU THINK WILL WORK AND MAYBE SOME SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT ELSE TO DO/ EXTEND FROM THESE POINTS.
8. OVERALL
1) The target audience would be expecting lots of colour which gives a fun and vibrant feel to the video as well as having a few
close up shots littered through it so as to highlight the look of the characters and uphold the voyeuristic side of videos. They
would also expect to see outside locations or plain simple rooms which would be a way to emphasise the outfits and general
look of the band/ artist.
2) The target audience would prefer not to see ‘sexual’ content as it makes them uncomfortable or by having too many shots of
the artist singing to the character as it can make the video quite boring and regular which does not show the creative ability of
the producer/ artist.
3) The target audience expect to see some repeatability especially for parts of the songs which are repeated themselves such as
the chorus or hook line as this creates a consistent ideal for the video. It is evident that there needs to be a particular amount of
repeated image otherwise the attention will be lost for those watching it.
4) Fans of indie bands are likely to want to see the music video for newly released songs as they enjoy having visuals to satisfy
their creative minds. They expect to see some kind of story within the music video.
5) Elements of an indie pop video which a target audience look forward to seeing include; the ‘point’/ storyline of the song, how
the artists brand has been expressed visually e.g. through lighting, costume etc, how the main character has been constructed
to fit the narrative.
6) The target audience appeared to like the idea of having weird and brightly coloured characters because it is different to your
regular video (unconventional) as well as the idea of green screen but they are slightly dubious of how successful it would be – if
it is edited suitably then it will be a lovely addition to the music video. Furthermore, some felt that the stop motion idea may
not work but they would e interested to see how it was approached. It was also suggested that a hazy effect could be added to
emphasise the dream idea.
