2. Research and Planning: WHAT RESEARCH AND PLANNING DID YOU DO IN
ORDER TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTION IN APPEALING TO YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?
I asked 20 people what they would expect of an indie magazine (colours) to
get an idea of what colours I should use in my magazine.
Red was the most popular choice, followed by Mustard, then Black and finally
a light blue.
I found this information really helpful in planning for my
product because it allowed me to see what colours
people would expect to see in an indie magazine so
then I knew what colours to use so people would see
my magazine as an indie genre. It allowed me to
construct a tri-colour scheme from the three most
popular colours that people said, I wouldn’t have thought
to use mustard, which is why I found the research so
helpful as other people’s ideas are better than my own.

3. Production choices:HERE YOU NEED TO DISCUSS HOW YOU THINK YOU APPEALED
TO YOUR AUDIENCE.
During the production of my product I decided to use the colours that were
recommended by my audience: black, red and mustard. These were the colours
that they said they’d expect to see in an indie magazine so I used them to ensure
they knew what the theme was indie which appeals to them. In my primary
research I was told that I need to use strong indie fonts to emphasise the theme.
I used a variety of fonts that were quite edgy and alternative so the audience
knew that my theme was indie. My audience said that if my magazine has strong
colours then an outside photoshoot would look too much and a studio shoot
would look smarter and more professional. My audience told me that a variety
of shots should be used to emphasise the indie theme. I tried a variety of angles
and different distances from the model, but some of them didn't compliment my
models so I had to find a shot that worked for them as well as the genre.
4. Audience feedback: AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON MY FIANL PRODUCT
I asked 5 people:
WHAT DRAWS YOUR ATTENTION TO MY MAGAZINE?
‘The colours that have been used in your magazine are really interesting as they contrast, but work well together
too. They are slightly different to colours you'd see on a standard magazine which makes it stand out and get my
attention.’
‘The model gets my attention as she is looking directly at the camera which makes me feel like she's looking at
me. This makes me want to go and look at the magazine.’
‘The variety of unusual fonts makes me want to look at the magazine as they really get my attention. Other
magazines use fonts similar to each other, but I really like the contrast in fonts and it really got my attention
more than anything else.’
‘The colours get my attention on your magazine cover as they are colours no one really uses, but they work well
together.’
‘The variety in colours gets my attention because they're quite different and wouldn't be seen together or on a
magazine usually, I like how different it looks.’
5. WHAT GENRE IS MY PRODUCT AND HOW DO YOU KNOW?
‘I think that your magazine is indie because the colours and font are unusual compared to a pop magazine and the the
word ‘indie’ is used on the cover a little bit.’
‘In my opinion, your magazine looks alternative like a cross between indie and rock, but the use of indie on the front
cover and the model looking a little edgy, I know that it is an indie magazine.’
‘I know your magazine is indie because you have used alternative fonts and colours and the model looks slightly
alternative in what she's wearing and how she's posing.’
‘Your magazine is alternative in my opinion, it looks a little pop like from the image, however the text and colours are
alternative. This creates a good contrast and makes it more alternative in a sense.’
