3. Low-key Lighting
In the sub-genre Vampire, low-key
lighting is often used to emphasize a
dark and gloomy atmosphere and
creates a sense of suspense. Therefore
high-key lighting is not used because it
has a positive connotation and destroys
the depressing and fearful mood.
4. Plots
In the sub-genre Vampire, the
plots are often very similar, as
the plot revolves around
vampires killing humans and
humans retaliating against them.
This is a convention because it is
what we expect to see in this
sub-genre. It often involves
heavy gore and jump scares.
5. Religious aspects
In the sub-genre Vampire,
crosses and crucifixes are often
used as a weapon against the
threat as it relates to the old
tales about vampires. It is used
to injure and kill supernatural
creatures, as the folk lore
depicts the crucifix as a sign of
god and light.
These images of the
cross portray a
religious stance against
the vampires, in all
three films they are
used to ward off the
evil of the undead.
