How to connect with people in order to minimize indifference.
-Why this project?
Technology, globalization, competitiveness, money, survival… These are some of the factors that
nowadays keep us connected in a way but disconnected in so many others. We are working to increase
our finances, but not to increase our human quality. We use social networks to connect with people
round the world and we are ignoring completely what is happening with those around us. Our life is in
function of being faster, stronger, better, but not kinder. That is where this project comes in; Getting
closer, raising awareness aims to implement the term “social conscience” through education. We want
to expose people from the Extramural Courses UA to material that shows the reality of our society in a
comprehensible way, then have them draw their own conclusion and hopefully at the end they can all
get closer and make difference in terms of interpersonal relationships.
-How?
With workshops where the main objective will be to get to know each other, his or her situation, and
learn how to relate to the condition of others, and overall, learn to be better human beings by learning
how to appreciate our differences.
Movies, posters, subjects, forums and debates will be the main tools.
-Who can be part of it?
Anybody in the Extramural Courses community willing to be an agent of change.
3. -Activities
Posters
Inspired by the Humans of New York Facebook page, we have decided to create a Humans of E. C. There
will be a weekly poster in a visible wall at the University, with a picture of a person (student, teacher or
worker) and their story. The story should be short and somehow inspirational; it could be about a
significant problem the person is going though at the moment or has gotten over recently; it could also
be a long lasting love story or simply the happiest day of their lives. Here an example:
4. Movies
There will be movies playing twice a month related to interpersonal relationships and at the end of each
movie, there will be an optional meeting where the viewers will be encouraged by a moderator to give
their opinions on the characters and their behaviors and how they could have done things differently in
order to promote tolerance and closer relationships.
The suggested movies due to their complex interpersonal relationship content are:
Subjects
The Universidad del Atlántico offers a subject on interpersonal relationships: Catedra de Amor by
professor Gaspar Emilio Hernandez Camaño, where any worker or student from the university can
register. Unfortunately, the subject is not advertised as it should and we hope that by advertising it
more people will register and more schedules will open.
