3. INTRODUCTION NTPC Limited is the largest power generating company of India. A public sector company, it was incorporated in the year 1975 to accelerate power development in the country as a wholly owned company of the Government of India. At present, Government of India holds 89.5% of the total equity shares of the company and the balance 10.5% is held by FIIs, Domestic Banks, Public and others. For shareholding pattern. The company has power generating facilities in all major regions of the country. It plans to be a 75,000 MW company by 2017.

The villages are located in remote and inaccessible areas where it would be either impossible or expensive to extend the power so to overcome this NTPC has initiated the concept of rural electrification through Distributed Generation projects for assisting the government of India in achieving the goal of “Electricity for all”.This will increase the growth of our country.
