stroke
stroke happens when blood
flow to your brain stops within
min.
Stroke also referred to as a
cerebrovascular accident (CVA)
Brain attack the loss of brain
function due to a disturbance in
the blood supply to the brain
Brain attack the loss of brain
function due to a disturbance
in the blood supply to the
brain.
The disturbance is due to
either ischemic (lack of
blood flew) or haemorrhage
Signs and symptoms
Sudden numbness or weakness of the face,
arm, leg (one side of the body).
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or
understanding speech
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness,loss of
balance or co-ordination.
Sudden severe headache with no known
cause.
types
 Ischemic stroke :
 this is caused by
blood clot that blocks or
plugs a blood vessel in
the brain.
 Haemorrhage:
 caused by a blood
vessel that breaks the
bleeds into the brain.
 Mini stroke (transient
ischemic stroke):(TIA):
 the blood supply to
the brain is briefly
interrupted.
Preventions
• Know Bp(blood pressure)
• Identify arterial fibrillation(AFIB)An abnormal
person heart beat can increase stroke.
• Stop smoking :
• smoking doubles the risk of stroke it
damages blood vessels walls speeds up artery
clogging raises Bp. makes the heart work
harden
• Control alcohol use
• know cholesterol levels
• Control diabetes
• Manage exercise /diet
• Treat circulation problems
• Fatty deposits can block arteries carrying
blood into the brain and lead to a stroke.
First aid
• Taking the person to the hospital to begin
treatment.
• Acute stroke therapies try to stop a stroke while it
is happens by quickly dissolving the blood clot or
stopping the bleeding.
• Drug therapy with blood thinners is the most
common treatment.
• Post-stroke rehabilitation helps individuals
overcome disabilities that result from stroke
damage.
• Bananas cut stroke for women after
menopause
• Eating potassium rich food also lower stroke
risk
• Older women can reduce stroke risk with k
rich diets
Thank you
