Barriers in Communication
 Perfunctory Attention- The first barrier in effective
communication is perfunctory attention. For effective
communication there should be proper attention from
both side.
 Perceptual Difference- If there is perceptual
difference between sender & receiver then a
communication become ineffective.
E.g.- A half glass water can say half full or can say
half empty depending point of view.
 Different Meanings- If receiver take information with
different meanings then it will be ineffective
communication.
 Hierarchical Differentiation- Due to hierarchy there
is also ineffective communication.
 Source Credibility- The effective communication
depend upon credibility of source of information very
much. E.g.- In Mahabharata
Dronacharya believe only on Yudhishthira only about
death information of his son Ashwathama.
 Filtering- The message is always filter from higher
level to lower level means the message pass by boss
reach to lower level with less information.
 Hidden Agenda- If giver want to convey some
message through hidden message means he passes
the message indirectly then it creates problem.
 Value Laden Words- If the message pass using
heavy words then it is also creates ineffective
communication.
 Omission- Some time sender missing out some
information.
