Over 40 million people worldwide are blind or have low vision that cannot be corrected through conventional methods. This number is expected to double by 2020, with over 90% of visually impaired people living in developing countries like India where access to vision services is limited. A majority of children with low vision in countries like India are sent to blind schools instead of receiving vision enhancement services that could allow them to attend regular schools. With training and low vision aids, visually impaired individuals can live independently, but many lack awareness of and access to these services.
