Over 40 million people worldwide are blind or have low vision that cannot be treated, with the number expected to double by 2020. Most visually impaired individuals live in developing countries like India, where nearly 45 million people have vision impairments but less than 15% have access to vision enhancement services. With training and low vision aids, visually impaired people can perform independently at home and work, but many lack awareness of or access to these services.

2. • Over 40 million people in the world are blind, and over 120
million have significant Low Vision that cannot be
corrected, cured or treated by conventional
refraction, medicine or surgery.
• This number is expected to double by the year 2020. (World
Health Organization, 2004).
• This includes over 1.4 million visually impaired children age 0-
14 years

3. • Over 90% of these visually impaired people live in developing
countries like India.
• Nearly 45 million Indians are visually impaired. In other
words, every 3rd blind person in the world is an Indian.
Almost 80% of them could have been cured.
• In developing countries like India, less than 15% of the
visually impaired people have access to vision enhancement
or rehabilitation services that could help to change their lives.

4. • A majority of the children with low vision are sent to blind
schools because they don't have access to or cannot afford
vision enhancement services that could help integrate them
into regular schools.
• A visually impaired adult or child can be trained, with the help
of Vision Enhancement and low vision aids to independently
perform at home, school, in the playfield and at work place.
• All this is possible if only such people could be made aware
and could access and afford such services
