3. Front Cover Ideas
I really like the idea of splitting an image in two, or even four, and I got the idea from
the King of Leon Album ‘Only by the night’ cover art (Left). The picture on the right is
an adaption of four images of the members of the band Imagine Dragons put together.
Personally I prefer the more animalistic approach to this kind of design, and so I may
try and make my own version of this, using my front woman, Karishma, and some type
of animal that relates to their genre and their new album and try and merge them
together, e.g. Perhaps a wolf.
4. 1st Double page spread
image
I would ideally like to start off my article by displaying a poster like picture such as
the one above that takes up a full 2 pages, and then go into the article with
another full bleed image but with text. I feel having this poster like picture will
help grab the attention of the desired audience, especially if it is bold and striking
such as the one shown. Also it would be more appealing if the target audience
thinks they will get a freebie poster as well as information.
5. 2nd Double page spread
image
This is ideally how I would like to properly start my article on my new and upcoming artists, The
Mundanes. In my opinion, this is a very striking and appealing way to start the article, by
introducing a full bleed image with the main focus point not necessarily in the middle, by instead
off side, making it unique and not the same as other magazines. As well as this, I think NME has
made a good decision in keeping in with the colour scheme of white, red and black and applying
these colours in with the article. I like the layout of this introduction and how the text has been
set out, including the boldness, and how the first letter’s size is bigger, thus making it stand out.
6. Main article
double page
spread
These are two examples of double page
spreads that I like, mainly because I think
they are quite different from a lo of
interviews and articles. I would like to create
something like these two, along similar lines.
I like the above because I love how they have
brought to life the big picture, not only
making it bigger but also putting the other
smaller images in a monotone setting. I think
this is very effective and particuarly how
they have arranged the words around the
image. Though the costumes and poses are
not appropriate for my genre, I like how this
has been laid out and would somehow like to
incorporate it into my work.
I also like how this one has been set out, because like
the girly one, it includes lot’s of different poses in one
page by the same person. I think it’s very clever how
they have managed to edit it so it looks like the person
is appearing over and over again. Also the text format is
more similar to how I would want my work to be laid
out, but not this colour scheme of black, white and blue.
