5. List of other citizen journalist websites
Citizen journalists are the regular
public creating and distributing the
news. Some people prefer them to
official news providers as the
journalists are independent so they
aren’t controlled by big
corporations so they can speak
their mind freely.

15. Comparison of the 3
distributors
• All articles are left-wing biased and saw Edith Windsor as a hero.
• CTV News uses online only to present the story. The Guardian and The Evening Standard are both available
online and as a print copy.
• CTV News gives lots of detail of the court case that the other two don’t. The Guardian gives detail about Edith
and Thea Spyer’s relationship that the others don’t. The Evening Standard says she was a finalist for Time
magazine’s Person of the Year, the other two don’t say this.
• CTV is a good news distributer because it is independent so the stories aren’t controlled by a board or
corporation. However, it isn’t as widely available as the other news sites as it is only online.
• The Guardian is a good news distributer because it is easily accessible and well known, so it is easy to find
their stories. However, The Guardian is controlled by a small team of businessmen and women, so they may
not choose to create the articles that a niche group of people want to read.
• The Evening Standard is a good news distributor because their stories are available in both print form and as
an online article, so more people will read it. However, the journalists don’t have as much creative freedom as
they would if they wrote for CTV News.
• CTV News is aimed at middle-aged men and women who are interested in politics and serious news stories.
The Guardian has a target audience of an “educated, middle-class, left-leaning, 18+ audience”. The Evening
Standard is aimed at “professional, upmarket Londoners”.
